On December 16, 2024, Energy Transition & Development Transformation Laboratory - ENTRA Lab and Institute of Energy Development & Transition to the Post-Lignite Era successfully hosted its 2nd Local Stakeholders' Meeting at the Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Macedonia. The event brought together representatives from academia, public actors, civil society, and businesses to address green skills development for SMEs during the just energy transition. The online meeting featured insightful presentations and discussions on the region's opportunities and challenges in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. 🌍 Our team had the chance to attend the Low-Carbon SME Development and Transition (COMMIT) project seminar on Strategy Development in Velenje, Slovenia! Together with partners from across Europe, we explored innovative strategies for supporting SMEs in their transition to a low-carbon economy, with a special focus on regions like Savinja-Šalek and Western Macedonia that are undergoing significant industrial transformation. It was an honor for our Energy Transition & Development Transformation Laboratory - ENTRA Lab to represent the University of Western Macedonia, with Dr Lefteris Topaloglou, Dr. Despoina Kanteler, and our associate researchers and PhD candidates Fenia Pliatsika and Konstantina Nikolaidou. Special shoutout to Fenia for presenting our research on "Good Practices in Strategy Development in the Region of Western Macedonia", which was conducted in collaboration with Konstantina. Today, our scientific team at the Just Transition Observatory-JT Observatory came together for a highly productive meeting. We're nearing the completion of our literature review and are now gearing up for the next phase—field research! 📝🌍 We had an in-depth discussion about our research methods, including questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups, which will be conducted in three key regions affected by the energy transition: 📍 Western Macedonia, Greece 📍 Silesia, Poland 📍 Stara Zagora, Bulgaria In the coming weeks, we’ll have the opportunity to travel to Poland to kick off this vital fieldwork. Our team is currently finalizing and testing our research tools to ensure the highest quality of data collection and insights.
