We are thrilled to see the recent launch of the Global Child Nutrition Foundation Global Survey of School Meal Programs report. This report is important as it provides data and insights on large-scale school feeding programs globally. We are particularly happy to see inclusion of the Global Diet Quality Score (GDQS) food groups in the report (see pages 35-41 for details)!  🥣 At least 407.8 million children were fed by school meals 🫘 76% of school meal programs surveyed reported serving legumes, and low income countries are more likely to include them than high income countries 🍓🥦🥛 High income countries are more likely to serve fruits, cruciferous vegetables, and dairy products compared to low income countries 🌍 38% of programs targeted “climate-friendly” food Congratulations to the Global Child Nutrition Foundation for all of your work!

Check out this paper for a great example of how the Global Diet Quality Score (GDQS), and its sub-metrics, can be used to not only measure diet quality but also identify which food groups (and foods) are being over- or under-consumed. 🍉 🍇 🥕 🥑 🫘 🥚🦐 🥓 🥐 This type of diet quality data is easy to collect and provides insights for actionable policies and programs. Intake Center for Dietary Assessment has published two Dietary Data Books for #Nigeria and #Zambia in celebration of the completion of their respective national food consumption surveys. These Dietary Data Books were designed to visually summarize the key dietary results from each national survey.
