Please welcome Joseph Eckstrom (Joey) to the team as Lead Software Engineer! Joey has spent his career working across every level of the software stack: from BIOS and firmware to frontend. In this role, he’ll be putting that experience to use working alongside multiple teams at Integer. His work will include building software architecture, developing best practices, identifying commonalities, and driving re-use between projects. Joey is a Columbia, S.C., native and he received his bachelor’s degree in #ComputerScience from USC Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing. Joey began his career at Intel Corporation doing firmware development and then post-silicon validation. He has also worked on the security side as a lead information security engineer focused on building security infrastructure for government customers. Most recently, he was a senior full-stack developer focused on #DoD contracts at a South Carolina start-up. “I became interested in Integer for the challenge, the feeling of a small company, and the opportunity to work on very cool projects, while staying rooted in my hometown,” Joey said. When not at Integer, Joey enjoys spending time in #ColaCity with his wife, two dogs, and cat, as well as restoring antique Ford automobiles and running tabletop role-playing games. #hiring #SoftwareEngineer #ComputerEngineer #AI #MachlineLearning #maritime #UUV #USV

About us
Integer Technologies supports U.S. national security customers by equipping them with innovative technology that provides a new capability. We do this by accelerating the development of scientific research into fielded systems that keep our country safe. Our core capabilities include: power & energy systems; unmanned systems, with an emphasis on maritime systems; digital engineering tools; and advanced composites manufacturing. Our mission is to create a safer world by translating scientific discoveries into reliable products that address urgent national security needs... at the speed of relevance. The best concepts that emerge from our research are developed into reliable products that make an impact on our customers' missions. These missions are the focus and guiding light for our innovation. They also provide the litmus test and the great equalizer for all our innovation. It's one thing to do great research and make a discovery... it's another thing to prove its utility by putting that research into action. To accomplish this mission, we partner with top research universities to bring the most promising innovations from academia into our customers' hands through collaborative applied research. We are deeply integrated with our university partners, which enables us to develop new concepts into functional prototypes faster than the competition, recruit top talent from academia, and reward our employees with the thrill of working on a team that is on the cutting-edge of their research field.

Please welcome Craig Merrill, Ph.D., to the team as Sensor Fusion Engineer! In this role, Craig will be focused on data fusion efforts as part of our Perception team, a joint project with USC Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing that uses passive computerized sensing to assist #USVs with navigation and collision avoidance. Craig began his career in the US Navy, where he completed two submarine tours and deployed 10 times. He also worked at a number of submarine repair facilities, including the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD), a Navy research lab, and the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), where he led the logistics management and engineering program for the submarine fleet. He transitioned to the private sector and became a principle engineer for a small research firm before deciding to return to the lab and work on research so that he could be, in his words, “a real engineer.” A Navy man through and through, Craig received his bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy, and his master’s and doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. He specialized in fluid dynamics and ship systems engineering while at graduate school. The bulk of his research has been for the Navy, and he’s also led research efforts for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). While his initial research focused on fluid mechanics and submarine design, the past 15+ years have been in the fields of physical oceanography, electromagnetic transmissions in the marine atmospheric boundary layer, hydro-acoustics, and non-acoustic ship signatures. “My network initially connected me with Integer, and the chance to do interesting and meaningful work peaked my interest. However, it was Integer’s values – especially listing integrity at the top – that sold the deal for me. Integrity and honor matter to me, and I like working with folks who feel the same way,” said Craig. Craig and his wife Susan have recently relocated to Winston-Salem, N.C., to be closer to their children and extended family. He enjoys woodworking, running, and studying philosophy in his spare time.

Happy National Apprenticeship Week(NAW)! 📣 This week, over 2,200 events are taking place across all 50 states—celebrating 10 years of engagement, expansion, and innovation in Registered Apprenticeships. As an apprenticeship graduate, I know firsthand how transformative this path can be. Big shoutout to companies like Integer Technologies LLC for leading the way in providing opportunities for the next generation of workers! 🙌 As a fellow apprenticeship graduate, I love highlighting how valuable apprenticeships are. More companies should take a page from Integer Technologies LLC and strive to provide such opportunities to the next workforce of America. Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at the HBCU RA Collaborative Kick-Off and reflecting on how my journey—from taking Assembly Language at Benedict College to talking with the U.S. Department of Labor—has shaped my career. Everyone’s journey into tech is unique. My story isn’t the conventional route, but that’s the beauty of apprenticeships—they open doors in ways you least expect! I’m grateful for my support system and everyone who pushed me to keep going. I hope my story encourages others to consider apprenticeship programs or explore their own unconventional paths. You never know where it might take you! 🔑 Let’s keep expanding opportunities and fostering innovation through apprenticeships. If you have an apprenticeship story, share it with us! #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #ApprenticeshipJourney #RegisteredApprenticeship #TechCareer #HBCU

It was great to visit with the Speaker of the House today. There’s a lot of flux in the world today, but on a personal level, it’s good to know there are people in positions of power who seem to really care for the people they serve. Louisiana holds a special place in my heart. We now have a strong team of scientists and engineers in Baton Rouge (where we are #hiring by the way). I am very grateful for the partnership Integer Technologies LLC has developed with LSU, and the warm welcome we’ve received from the Louisiana delegation. And there’s much more goodness to come. Thanks to Will Todd and Icebreaker Strategies, LLC for helping to make this happen. Onward and upward!
