About us

The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (IVCI) was founded in 1982 by the legendary violinist and teacher Josef Gingold. Since its inception, the quadrennial Competition has been committed to nurturing the careers of young violinists while centering the world spotlight on Indianapolis and the city's Midwest hospitality. Participants come to "The Indianapolis" from all corners of the world to take part in 17 days of competition, workshops and educational outreach programs, all while being hosted by an Indianapolis family. The Competition has been touted as the "Olympics of the Violin" while maintaining the warm, friendly reputation made famous by its founder.
