We have two exciting keynotes for the ACM International Animal-Computer Interaction Conference 2024 that I am hosting in December. For our opening keynote Amanda Seed, director of RZSS LivingLinks from the University of St Andrews, drawing from her work, will discuss "What kind of minds do primates have?" looking at how species understanding and their cognitive evolution impact animal-computer interfaces. For our closing keynote, Marwa Mahmoud from the University of Glasgow will give a talk, "Beyond Sight: Vision-AI for Animal Behaviour Understanding", talking about how vision-AI can benefit animal welfare by detecting disease and pain.

🌿 Seeing Through New Eyes: Co-Creating with the More-Than-Human World with Jiabao Li. Join us for the next Interspecies Conversations lecture and discover how to move from observer to co-creator with the more-than-human world. Jiabao Li challenges our human-centric worldview through experiments and performances. Li introduces a framework for this collaboration, guiding us through three stages: 💡 Empathize and embody other species' experiences; 👉 Speak up for them through manifestos; 🦑 Co-create and co-design with them. Jiabao Li is an Artist and Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin whose work explores interspecies co-creation and the impact of technology on human perception. She also contributed to the development of Apple Vision Pro. Jiabao is the recipient of numerous awards including Forbes China 30 Under 30 and the Outstanding Instructor Award at MoMA. Li’s work has been featured at The Museum of Modern Art, the Venice Architecture Biennale, Milan Design Week, and Dubai Design Week. Thanks The Washington Post for covering our work on wolf communication and conservation, using NVIDIA and Microsoft AI tech built with Avnet Integrated Solutions manufacturing prowess. As scientists continue to show a decrease in non-human animal biodiversity across the planet, the conservation of carnivores like wolves is the best KPI to test whether or not humans can protect the rest of the wild kingdom. I suppose we could all live in a virtual wild kingdom...I prefer the real deal.
