As part of the Saudi Space Agency’s commitment to developing specialized national talent in space exploration, the Agency’s team is participating in advanced training in collaboration with Intuitive Machines. This training includes invaluable hands-on experience with command systems, flatsat testing, and managing mission control console activities during surface operations. This contributes to enhancing the Kingdom’s human capabilities and opens new horizons in the space sector.

Intuitive Machines unveiled the Moon RACER lunar terrain vehicle (LTV) at Space Center Houston on Thursday, November 7. RACER, an acronym for Reusable Autonomous Crewed Exploration Rover, accommodates two astronauts and some 400 kg (882 lbs.) of cargo. The LTV has a rechargeable electric battery, a robotic arm and is designed to pull a trailer loaded with an additional 800 kg (1,764 lbs.). Driven on the left or right side or controlled remotely from Earth, RACER was developed for NASA’s Artemis campaign and is one of three LTVs under consideration. Artemis astronauts may use the LTV to travel the lunar surface, conducting scientific research and preparing for human missions to Mars. Between Artemis missions, when crews are not on the Moon, Intuitive Machines may operate the LTV remotely to support commercial scientific discovery and long-term human space exploration. #OTD in 2022 Intuitive Machines was given the green light to leverage its Direct-to-Earth data transmission network and Mission Control Center to track the Artemis I Orion spacecraft in real time as an opportunity to demonstrate our capability to determine spacecraft position and velocity. 

We had a great day here at Space Center Houston for #NationalSTEMday. We were excited to have our Lunar Terrain Vehicle as an exhibit, center stage for all to see. We had a few of our LTV Engineers here to give great information on the vehicle Reed Mulloy. We also had our Talent Acquisition team here to tell over 400 local students more about STEM and how they could have a future in that career path.
