During the 2024 Fixed Income Leaders Summit, Senior Vice President James Morris sat down with Dan Barnes with Trader TV to discuss how municipal finance is being transformed by electronic trading and automation. This impact is particularly evident in the increased efficiency of odd lot trading, growing the number of the separately managed accounts (SMAs), and the ability to quickly find optimal trading opportunities in the market. At Investortools, Inc., we successfully guide clients through the transition to automation. By reducing the manual aspects of frequently carried out processes, users are empowered to scale operations and manage increased workloads more effectively. This efficiency is seen in portfolio construction times within our software, where clients are reporting rapid transitions from cash to fully invested portfolios in a matter of days. "To provide their institutional-sized SMA clients savings on costly multiple ATS API connections, the firm launched its Investortools Dealer Network to offer better access to bonds and trading. It’s a platform of platforms, an end to end solution where brokers, money managers, and ATS interact in real time directly, either with the ATS intermediating the trade or trading directly between dealer and money manager. With a simple, single API, the bond world is opened." Our users are leveraging the Investortools Dealer Network (IDN) to tap into extensive market depth, achieve best execution, and scale their AUM without increasing headcount. The Netflixafication of the Municipal Bond Market I like Netflix. At any time, from obscure indy films to UFO documentaries (are they really documentaries?) I can stream my favorite entertainment choices. In the municipal bond market, the technology of the Alternative Trading Platform offers the same 24/7 streaming of bond offerings. Combined with AI, they are transforming the municipal bond market—in real time. https://lnkd.in/eEHwYzsg #Netflix #FinTech #MunicipalBonds #ATS #MSRB

Municipal yields briefly spiked following the election in early November, but quickly dropped back down, ultimately finishing the month lower than they had started it. The shortest and longest terms finished the month with yields very near where they were at the start of 2024, but yields at terms between 3 and 15 years are still up substantially for the year. Joel Buursma, VP Senior Software Architect and principal author of Investortools' Monthly Municipal Market Performance Reports, was recently featured in The Bond Buyer. The article explores how the performance of the municipal bond market in 2024 compares to previous years. Joel Buursma shared his insights stating, "In the first ten months of 2022, short-term treasury yields surged upward over 400 basis points, while short-term municipal bond yields rose almost 300 basis points. Longer-term bond yields also rose between 200 and 300 basis points in this period. While 2024 hasn't seen the dramatic upswing in yields seen in 2022, or even May through October of 2023, yields are nonetheless up overall in 2024." While market conditions have shifted since 2023, tax-loss harvesting remains an essential process for investors. We recently hosted a Tax-Loss Harvesting webinar to showcase the platform's features that support this strategy, focusing on how they streamline the tax-loss harvesting process for a more efficient and scalable workflow. Through the Investortools platform, users are empowered to: • 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀: Define capital gain/loss goals for each portfolio • 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿: Easily identify the best candidates for gains or losses • 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁: Utilize Perform’s Request-for-Quote (RFQ) workflow, including multi-platform AutoEx • 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝘅 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Review changes to estimated tax liability These protocols and automation features are built with scalability in mind. They also support a workflow that maximizes tax-loss benefits while minimizing the impact of high bond turnover and wasted time. We wish everyone a happy and delicious Thanksgiving tomorrow! As we celebrate the holiday tomorrow, we’re reminded of how fortunate we are to have such a dedicated and compassionate team at Investortools. Just last week, our Naperville office demonstrated this spirit during our annual volunteer service day with Loaves & Fishes Community Services & Fishes, a local nonprofit and food pantry serving the Naperville community. Together, our team packed nutritious and delicious groceries to support families in need, embodying the true meaning of giving. We are deeply grateful for our team's efforts, both in their work and their impact within our community. Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with gratitude!

I'm glad for the opportunity to be quoted in this article by Jessica Lerner in The Bond Buyer that captures the current pulse of this year-end portfolio management ritual. Investortools' software for portfolio, order & execution management helps institutional investors do (among many other things) tax-loss harvesting on their fixed-income portfolios accurately and at scale. If that sounds like something you could use, check it out at https://lnkd.in/g9_4gD_F!
"There is compelling evidence that both institutional and retail investors are leveraging recent yield volatility to book advantageous losses on the Tradeweb platform," according to Tradeweb.
