🚨 Hot off the press! 🚨 New study from Mass General Brigham reveals a complex relationship between gender and postoperative outcomes in cardiac surgery. Women show a lower risk of developing postoperative atrial fibrillation (poAF) compared to men, but once poAF occurs, women face a significantly higher risk of long-term mortality. This calls for more tailored post-op care and vigilant monitoring for female patients. The Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network (CTSN) is addressing this with a comprehensive action plan that includes: - Setting site-specific enrolment targets 🎯 - Collecting social determinants of health data 📊 - Recruiting diverse populations 🌎 - Implicit bias training 🧠 Lala et al. discuss these strategies and their importance in ensuring trial participants better reflect the communities we serve. 🔗 Read More https://lnkd.in/efBEAE-K #WomenInSurgery #CardiothoracicSurgery #ClinicalTrials #HealthEquity
