Did you know that the school bus is one of the safest vehicles on the road? Less than 1% of all traffic fatalities involve children on school transportation vehicles. However, children are more at risk when approaching or leaving a school bus. We have a few tips to help keep kids safe: - Understand school bus lights. Yellow flashing lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Red flashing lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. You must stop your car and wait until the red lights stop flashing! - Before the bus arrives, be sure your child stays at least five BIG steps away from the curb. - When the school bus arrives, your child should wait until the bus comes to a complete stop, the door opens, and the driver says it’s okay to get on or off. #NationalSchoolBusSafetyWeek
