Ipas Africa Alliance partnered with the Ministry of Health - Uganda, to convene a Self-Care Partners Coordination Meeting to accelerate self-care interventions. The event, officiated by the Director General of Health Services Dr Olaro, brought together key stakeholders, including Population Services International United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), @ACORD, Pathfinder International, MSI Reproductive Choices, RHU, and CEHURD Uganda, fostering collaboration and progress toward shared goals. The meeting highlighted major achievements and identified fresh opportunities to strengthen self-care initiatives. Key outcomes included aligning stakeholders with Uganda’s national self-care priorities for 2025/2026, sharing progress across critical thematic areas, and finalizing the dissemination plan for the National Guidelines on Self-Care Interventions for Health and Well-being. Adding to the week’s successes, our team was honored to participate in the SRHR and gender partner event at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda. Here, we showcased the impact of our work, emphasizing our unique value propositions in reproductive justice and its intersection with other critical issues. This pivotal engagement inspires us to continue building partnerships and driving transformative change.

Fifty-one years ago, Roe v. Wade affirmed the right to abortion—a victory that changed the landscape of reproductive rights. But for Black women, Roe was the floor, not the ceiling. Despite the rights Roe safeguarded, many Black and brown women were denied access to the reproductive care we deserved due to reproductive care deserts or economic barriers to care.  The dismantling of #Roe exacerbated existing barriers to care and opened the door for 26 states to restrict or even criminalize abortion care. We know we need to restore the right to abortion, but what we need to build back must go further than #Roe to ensure everyone can make decisions for themselves, free from barriers and oppression. This fight is far from over. 💻 Visit the link in our bio to learn how you can take action and protect reproductive justice for generations to come.

Why is community important to us? At Ipas we believe that championing local solutions and lasting change begins within communities. By localizing solutions and engaging key stakeholders, we have been advancing body autonomy for women and girls while fostering ownership and sustainable impact. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡-𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 We empower youth with SRHR knowledge and connect them to local CBOs offering safe spaces for dialogue. These organizations create forums where the youth can use the information they receive to amplify their voices, drive awareness, and influence policies that promote their well-being 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 Along the lakeside regions, we address reproductive health challenges like transactional sex, teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence. By equipping the fishmongers at the beach with correct information and skills, we enable them to make informed decisions while strengthening their local resilience. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐭 Our work with sugarcane cutters highlights our commitment to localized change. By engaging these key stakeholders, we seek to address the root causes of teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence within the sugar belt, while building a movement of advocates for safer communities 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐚 (Motorbike Riders) 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 As trusted transport providers in the communities where we work, boda boda operators are critical partners. Through tailored capacity-building on key issues affecting their work and communities, the operators are empowered to actively advocate against teenage pregnancies, sexual violence, and exploitation.. 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 We leverage the influence of cultural and religious leaders, the custodians of African heritage, to challenge harmful gender norms and promote unity in addressing critical SRHR issues. By embedding ourselves within communities, we harness local expertise, foster ownership, and co-create solutions that resonate with unique cultural and societal contexts. These are some of the ways Ipas Africa Alliance is partnering with communities to deliver sustainable, locally driven impact. Together, we’re creating empowered, self-reliant communities where women and girls thrive. #PartnersforReproductiveJustice #GenderNormsShift #CommunityEngagement #SRHRAdvocacy #TripleThreatAwareness #YouthEmpowerment #GenderEquality #CulturalLeadership #BodaBodaSRHRCampaign #WomenRights #ReproductiveHealth

"The nonprofit IPAS works with hundreds of organizations in dozens of countries to provide access to contraception, abortion and other reproductive health services. Many of the clinics have shuttered, some permanently, said Anu Kumar, the organization’s president. The speed of the disruption did not allow clinics time to make contingency plans or taper their dependence on the funding, she said, adding, “This definitely has a ripple effect.” After one week of the freeze, more than 900,000 women and girls will have been denied reproductive care, a figure that will grow to 11.7 million over the 90-day pause, according to the Guttmacher Institute. “That’s more than the entire population of North Carolina,” Dr. Kumar said." Our president and CEO Anu Kumar was quoted in this recent piece for the The New York Times. Read the full article here: https://nyti.ms/3EwWdal

Hi there! We are Repro Uncensored, a global coalition of reproductive health organizations, internet freedom advocates, and creatives, dedicated to ensuring universal access to accurate information. We thought we will celebrate the launch of our Linkedin account by sharing our incredible collaboration with artist Brindha Kumar on "How Abortion Information is Restricted Online": 🚨 Since the recent U.S. presidential inauguration, we’ve seen yet another wave of abortion organizations, creators, and influencers censored, suspended, and shadowbanned online. 🚨 ❌ Social media companies are wrongfully removing abortion-related content, suppressing critical health information, and limiting access to vital resources. 💡 Everyone has the right to access abortion information, and Big Tech must ensure that such content is not unfairly targeted or silenced. We are proud to be launching this creative collaboration to make sure everyone knows about the ongoing suppression of abortion information online. Together, we will keep putting pressure on Big Tech to stop the censorship of abortion content and uphold our right to share critical health information. 💗 Here’s how you can take action: ➡️ Share this post with your community and tell them to follow @reprouncensored to keep them informed and raise awareness ➡️ Report your experiences! If you’ve faced content removals, account suspensions, or shadowbanning after sharing abortion information, help us take action with Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) by reporting it at https://lnkd.in/ezMtJu2h
