Clinical leader in patient safety, enabling a standard of care for patient handoffs and closed-loop communication
About us
The I-PASS Patient Safety Institute is a clinical leader in patient safety, enabling a standard of care for patient handoffs and closed-loop communication. Founded by clinicians in 2016, the I-PASS Institute uses technology and digital tools to scale the I-PASS mnemonic. The I-PASS Institute’s solution, the I-PASS Bundle, consists of three core components—I-PASS Training, I-PASS Assessment and Improvement, and the I-PASS Written Handoff Tool. When all three platforms are used in unison, institutions are able to reduce patient harm caused by miscommunication. Currently implemented in more than 100 institutions, the organization’s clients span high-reliability organizations, from pediatrics and residency programs to nursing and transition of care with families.

During our visit, clinical leaders stressed the importance of being physically present to guide nurses and respiratory therapists through this transition. Their dedication to fostering behavior change reflects a deep commitment to achieving zero harm and elevating patient safety. Thank you to both teams for your inspiring leadership and focus on safer care for patients across Kentucky! 🙌 📸 Check out highlights from our visits! #PatientSafety #ZeroHarm #handoffcommunication #healthcare #RespiratoryTherapists Trish Jordan, Sandy Keith RN, MSN, CPHQ, HACP-CMS, Marilyn Riley DNP, PhD, MBA, FNP, APRN-BC, NE-BC, CPXP, Deborah Campbell, Theresa Murray, Christina Hazekamp, MPH, Megan Esporas, Andrea Ferguson, Marshall Burkhart, Nan Henderson

Last week, our team celebrated a successful go-live at Baptist Health Paducah, where I-PASS is already enhancing shift reports and care coordination. Thanks for a great visit, Deborah Campbell!
Last week, Deb Campbell, VP of Clinical Strategy, met with the I-PASS team (Christina Hazekamp, Theresa Murray and Marshall Burkhart) following a successful go-live of the wave I adopters at Baptist Health Paducah. The leaders from Baptist Health and Baptist Paducah were pleased with how smoothly the go live went and front-line nurses are excited about the way I-PASS streamlines their shift report – making the care coordination that patients and care providers desire much easier to deliver. The group debriefed about the successful beginning of the engagement and strategized about the coming year.

🌟 Happy Respiratory Care Week! This week, we’re celebrating the incredible work of Respiratory Therapists and their essential role in patient care. A special shout-out to the Respiratory Therapists at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics, one of our mentored sites currently implementing I-PASS. Effective communication during handoffs is critical in ensuring patient safety, and these dedicated professionals are setting the standard by applying I-PASS’s unified structure and tools to their reporting. Last week, I-PASS had a wonderful time at the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM)’s annual conference in San Diego, CA. Joining thousands of safety/quality leaders, malpractice insurers, healthcare professionals and more, we exchanged ideas and engaged in thoughtful discussions gathered around a shared goal of advancing safe, reliable healthcare. Across three days of insightful presentations, our team gained valuable insights into the challenges and best practices related to risk management. Thank you to ASHRM for hosting this enriching conference, where patient safety advocates from around the world can have meaningful conversations about driving safe and equitable quality care delivery. And thank you to team members Kieran Eissler, William Floyd, and Robert Hanscom for representing I-PASS at the event. We hope to see you there next year! #PatientSafety #ASHRM24 #medicalmalpractice #healthcare #caredelivery
