Today is the 6th day of ITA #12DaysofChristmas Initiative, and we will look back to June 2024! Undeniably, the most important event was 36𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐓𝐀 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 co-chaired by Thomas Stipanowich, Anne Véronique Schlaepfer and Christian Leathley. Welcome Remarks were delivered by the past ITA Chair Tom Sikora and The Center for American and International Law President and ITA Director Thomas (T.L.) Cubbage, followed by the introduction to YOUNG ITA ROUNDTABLE by Young ITA Chair Karima Sauma. The room is almost full! During lunch, our guests enjoyed a thought provoking conversation between Jan Paulsson and Elizabeth Silbert. This interview is the latest in a series organized by the past ITA Academic Council's Chair Victoria Sahani and Dr Crina Baltag, FCIArb to record the evolution of modern international  arbitration in the words of those who have led it. During the Workshop there was a meeting of the ITA Americas Initiative lead by outgoing Americas Intiative Chair Elina Mereminskaya (FCIArb) and incoming Chair Eric Franco FCIArb MSc. The Workshop was wrapped up our by the famous ITA Forum moderated by Sonia Bjorkquist, Jennifer Haworth McCandless, Thomas Innes, and Dr. Richard Happ! We also thank our volunteers D. Carolina Plaza E., Lindsey Mitchell, and Ekaterina Long for their hard work and help! Other events in June 2024 included the 5th edition of Bucharest Arbitration Days, one of the prominent international arbitration conferences in Eastern Europe, organized by, inter alia, by Dr Crina Baltag, FCIArb, and ITA Europe Task Force Chair Dr Cosmin Vasile FCIArb. We thank the exceptional speakers of the ITA panel Lucian ILIE (LL.M, MCIArb), Dr Richard Happ, Maria Fogdestam Agius, Anne-Carole Cremades and the moderator Dr Ioana Knoll-Tudor. An unconventional #YoungITATalks Germany program on "𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 4.0 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐔𝐩𝐬" turned out to be a lot of fun! We thank Alexander Steinbrecher, General Counsel of Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), Philipp K. Wagner, Dr. Rüdiger Morbach for creating this "cool" event! The month of June also brought us #YoungITATalks Argentina program, "𝐃𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐚 𝐲 𝐥𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐢ó𝐧 𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐬" which took place on June 13, and was hosted by Facultad de Derecho, Universidad de Buenos Aires. This event was jointly organized by Young ITA and the ICC Arbitration YAAF. We thank moderator Juan Ignacio Gonzalez Mayer, panelists Federico Campolieti, M. Ines Sola of Pan American Energy), María Alejandra Etchegorry (Procuración del Tesoro de la Nación) and Santiago Lucas Peña who was essential to the organization of this event.

This series is designed to raise the awareness of “arbitration” users as to the right choice of Arbitration Rules, and to reinforce cooperation between the arbitral institutions. These webinars will present, one by one, institutions such as LCIA, ICC, SCC, ICSID, ICDR, HIAC and many others. Our goal is to reach beyond the ordinary and bland description of main features and give the audience a practical tool facilitating the choice of the set of rules appropriate for each individual case. Today is the 5th day of our #12DaysofChristmas Initiative, and we will look back to May 2024! May 2024 started with two ITA events at ICCA 2024 Hong Kong. The first one, "𝐀 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐲" featured an interview of Mariel Dimsey, former secretary-general of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre HKIAC by Cameron Sim. The second event was a Young ITA program, "𝐀 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚-𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐌 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐫" where Alice Wang, Cecilia Flores Rueda, FCIArb, Eduardo Damião, Eva Chan, Joshua Karton and Murphy Mok presented their thoughts. Also, together with Wolters Kluwer (Wolters Kluwer: International Arbitration & Mediation) we had an illustrious International Arbitration Pub Quiz where Michael Mcilwrath, Dr Crina Baltag, FCIArb and Abhinav Bhushan were our quiz masters while Loretta Malintoppi, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Wahab C.Arb, FCIArb, and Koh Swee Yen, S.C. were the panel members. Later that month, we spent a morning discussing the Rules of the CPR Institute with Mia Levi, and Alberto Ravell of ConocoPhillips at "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐓𝐀 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒕 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 (𝑪𝑷𝑹)". Also in May, Edwin Pezo, Elina Mereminskaya (FCIArb), Ramiro Portocarrero Lanatta, and Yuri Vega Mere got together to discuss "𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐣𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐢ó𝐧". At the end of the month, Anna García Morineau, Roberto Dondisch, Ana Laura Magaloni, Iván Esquivel, José Ignacio García Cueto, Sylvia Sámano Beristain and Verónica Sandler discussed 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬: 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞, 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐬, 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐬 as part of #YoungITATalks Mexico program. #YoungITATalks Nairobi program on "𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 – 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬" took place just before ICC Arbitration conference on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya. The program featured Young ITA Africa Co-Chairs, Edith Twinamatsiko, MCIArb and Hamid Abdulkareem as well as Constance Odiero and Mrinal Jain. A special thank you to Prof Loukas Mistelis FCIArb and Dr. Darya Shirokova for helping with venue and organizing this event.

Today is the 4th day of the Institute's #12daysofChristmas Initiative which will bring us back to April 2024. We kicked off the month of April with the 21st Institute for Transnational Arbitration - American Society of International Law conference with an introduction from ITA Chair, Tom Sikora and ASIL President, Gregory Shaffer. The program began with a Keynote address by Hon. Diane P. Wood, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The first panel was moderated by conference Co-Chair Jason Yackee and featured Prof. Jack Coe, Ashwita Ambast, and Analia Gonzalez. The second, and final, panel was moderated by conference Co-Chair Dean Susan Karamanian and featured Prof. Eric De Brabandere, Marney Cheek, and Ucheora Onwuamaegbu, PhD. The conference was concluded by past Chair of ITA Academic Council Victoria Sahani. On April 11, 2024, we spent a truly amazing morning with Martina Polasek and Dr Claudia Frutos-Peterson at the "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐓𝐀 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑪𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑰𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔 (𝑰𝑪𝑺𝑰𝑫)". On April 18, 2024 we had a chance meeting Dr. Ramona Schardt, LL.M. (UVA) who was interviewed by Richard Happ and shared the insights on the Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit e.V. (DIS) German Arbitration Institute Arbitration Rules. Young ITA continued the month with a virtual program, featuring His Excellency Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Ank Santens, Hamza Nizam Kazi, and Eugenia Stavropoulou, as well as Ibrahim Ati as moderator. This session was crafted to show the Middle East and the East, land of crossroads, setting a legacy of enriched dialogue and fresh vision to the law, marking a new chapter in the field of arbitration. Finally, in April 2024, Young ITA and ITA have made their debut at Istanbul Arbitration Days with #YoungITATalk on global supply chains and sanctions! Today is the 3d Day of ITA #12daysofChristmas Initiative which will bring us back to March 2024. The main in-person event for the Institute was undeniably 2nd ITA Conference on International Arbitration in the Mining Sector with Poupak Bahamin, Junior Sirivar and Dietmar W. Prager as Co-Chairs! Young ITA started March 2024 with a virtual webinar featuring Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Wahab C.Arb, FCIArb, Jalal (Jil) EL AHDAB, Jessica Beess und Chrostin, and Chérine Sophia FTOUKI as panelists, as well as Young ITA MENA Co-Chair Ibrahim Ati as moderator. The second webinar of the same series had Magda Kofluk, Abdullah Alsaeed, Thomas R. Snider, and Ilham Kabbouri as speakers. ITA later continued its expansion in the Middle East with a joint Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre, Hamad Bin Khalifa University event held at Qatar Foundation. Dean Susan Karamanian participated on the panel with Lord Thomas and the Chairman of the QFC Regulatory Tribunal, Sir William Blair.  Magda Kofluk also organized the "1𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐲𝐚𝐝𝐡 𝐕𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 " and assembled an incredible panel of experts consisting of Giovanna Micheli, Jessica Beess und Chrostin, Christian P. Alberti (SCCA), Prof Loukas Mistelis FCIArb, Franco Ferrari, and Stefan Kröll. In addition, Magda and Fatima Ashri delivered welcome remarks. Later in March 2024, Sofía Gómez Ruano, organized another meeting of the Mexican arbitration community with Gabriela Cosío Patiño - FCIArb on the topic of expectations for investment arbitration in LATAM in the light of the current political context. Big thank you to ITA Americas' former Chair Dr Elina Mereminskaya (FCIArb) for assuring ITA's presence in Americas! Young ITA also assured ITA's presence during Paris Arbitration Week by an event co-organized with YAWP - Young ArbitralWomen Practitioners discussing the Art of Persuasive Advocacy with Julie Spinelli, Philippa Charles, Noah Rubins KC and Ciara Ros! The second event organized by Georgios Fasfalis, Dr. Rüdiger Morbach and Karolina Czarnecka was "Ask [Them} Anything" allowing young lawyers to gain valuable perspectives from Roland Ziade and Sarah Vasani FCIArb. The month of March was ended strongly with #YoungITATalks Serbia event at this year Belgrade Vis Pre-Moot discussing "𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐭: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐈𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧". This program moderated by Željko Loci and featured Selim Can Bilgin, Dragana Nikolic, Thomas Innes, and Milivoje Mitrovic as panelists.

We thank all who attended the recent ITA Americas Initiative panel as part of #MiamiArbitrationWeek, R.E.A.L. Change in Arbitrator Selections. The panel was moderated by Enrique Molina (Omni Bridgeway) and included panelists Frida Altamirano Jiménez (Centro de Arbitraje de México), Kimberly Blake (DRRT), Eve Perez Torres (FedEx), and Ana (Portal) Ulseth, Esq.) (Reed Smith LLP). The panel discussed how institutions, outside counsel, parties, and funders all manage the appointment of arbitrators, particularly the appointment of emerging arbitrators, as well as female arbitrators. We also heard behind-the-scenes insight on how institutions go about appointing an arbitrator when the parties do not agree. We also thank ITA Americas Initiative Communications Vice Chair, Daniel Ávila II (Reed Smith LLP) for organizing the event, as well as Young ITA Communications Co-Chairs Angélica María Perdomo Luna and Meredith Craven for spreading the word! Today is the Second Day of #12daysofChristmas Initiative. The Month of February 2024 started with #YoungITATalks Africa/UK which considered whether international arbitration was a friend or foe of the energy transition. We thank Hamid Abdulkareem, Dr Victoria R Nalule, MCIArb, Farouk El-Hosseny, Kamal Shah, Naomi Tarawali, and Alexandre Genest for a lively debate. A special thank you goes to SOAS University of London, Afolarin Awosika for the report, and to UK and Africa Co-Chairs Robert Bradshaw, Thomas Lane, Edith Twinamatsiko, MCIArb, and Hamid Abdulkareem. February continued with a morning of learning, this time about International Centre for Dispute Resolution® (ICDR) with Steven K. Andersen, and Thomas (T.L.) Cubbage moderated by Dr. Darya Shirokova . On February 22, 2024, Young ITA was thrilled to host the Third Annual Young ITA Global Forum where members from each of Young ITA’s Regions were invited to serve as regional delegates. We thank the moderators Chloe Baldwin, Sylvia Sámano Beristain, Cameron Sim, Isuru Devendra, Ruxandra Irina Esanu, and Mark Stadnyk. Later in the month we had a pleasure to welcome Ahmed Ouerfelli, former Chief Legal Advisor to three Presidents of the Republic of Tunisia, Fatima Balfaqeeh (FCIArb C.Arb, MRICS, FCIPS), and Dr Mahmood Hussain at the First Webinar of Young ITA MENA Series. The webinar discussed the important issues of "𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐬: 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐀'𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧" and was moderated by Ibrahim Ati, Vice Chair at the American Bar Association. Towards the end of February we enjoyed Fireside chat with Stavros Brekoulakis, Michael Hwang S.C. and Laura Hwang Professor of International Arbitration (National University of Singapore) and Nicholas Lingard, ITA Asia Task Force Co- Chair. Nicholas explored with Stavros his journey in international arbitration (including his recent move to Singapore) and his many and varied contributions to the field. Some other impressive colleagues from around the world attended the event including Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Wahab C.Arb, FCIArb! We also thank then Young ITA Asia Co-Chairs Anne-Marie Dörnenburg and Alice Wang.
