🚨 Major Milestone Alert! 🚨 We're thrilled to share that the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure in Ethiopia have officially adopted the Ethiopia Urban Street Design Manual at the Ethio Green Mobility 2024 Symposium! 🌍✨ This manual is a major step forward, providing a comprehensive guide to creating safer, more accessible, and inclusive streets for Ethiopia's rapidly growing urban population. It’s all about designing streets that put people first! ITDP and UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) are proud to have provided technical support throughout this journey, helping shape the future of urban streets in Ethiopia. In addition, the manual includes an elaborate website with a design tool and various design templates to guide the adoption process. The manual and tool are available here: https://lnkd.in/d6EedKJN Together, we're creating streets that serve everyone. #UrbanMobility #SustainableCities #GreenMobility #StreetDesign

Kicking off #WUF12, ITDP and UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) organized a walking tour to look at the pedestrian streets and bike share system in downtown #Cairo. Thank you to all those who joined us! The calmness of the city’s pedestrian streets, along with shade, public seating, and ground floor businesses, created walkable and enjoyable urban environments. An additional thank you to the Dutch Embassy of Cairo for hosting a reception for our cohort post-walking tour! Our ITDP delegation from around the world looks forward to a week of impactful discussions and workshops at #WUF12 in Cairo. Find out where to find us at itdp.org/event/world-ur… 🏙️ #ITDPatWUF

Non-motorised transport (NMT) is an essential part of urban infrastructure development. ITDP has been working to improve last-mile access to the Western Corridor BRT in Cairo by ensuring key corridors leading to the BRT have adequate well-designed infrastructure. The design process critically evaluates land and street uses to provide short, direct routes and meet social needs like vending, shade, and rest areas, while also integrating traffic calming and pedestrian crossings. ITDP organised a two-day conference with the 6th of October Authority, the New Urban Communities Authority, Swedfund International and UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) to present and discuss the designs for the priority corridors.
