Jackson Redevelopment Authority promotes social equity, environmental sustainability, and economic growth
About us
JACKSON REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY Jackson Redevelopment Authority was created to eliminate and prevent the development or spread of slum and blight in urban renewal areas of the City of Jackson. Working every day in the public’s interest, JRA’s goal is to eradicate conditions which endanger lives or property, impair growth of the city, diminish housing accommodations, cause economic or social liability, and/or create a menace to public health, safety, morals or welfare. At Jackson Redevelopment Authority, we are committed to promoting social equity, environmental sustainability and economic growth. Through strategic partnerships with the City of Jackson, Hinds County, the State of Mississippi, and other Public and Private Partnerships, JRA will work together to develop vibrant and engaging communities, unique to Jackson’s culture. OUR VISION JRA will be a catalyst for economic and cultural growth, helping to establish Jackson as the most prosperous, resilient and vibrant city in the South. JRA enjoyed hosting summer intern, Joseph Slack! A rising junior at Mississippi State University, Joseph volunteered with JRA, assisting with critical research and other projects in the office. For his last day, we hosted a pizza party and showered him with gift cards to show our appreciation. Thanks for spending a few weeks learning about JRA and our mission. Have a great year, Joseph! #EconomicDevelopment #CommunityBuilder #JacksonStrong #ChangingTheNarrative #JRA #JacksonRedevelopmentAuthority #FarishStreeForward #CityofSoul #jacksonmississippi
This past month, I had the privilege of being a volunteer intern at the Jackson Redevelopment Authority. During my internship I had the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by doing property inventory organization, design work, and conducting grant and revitalization project research for the JRA. This was a truly special experience, and I want to thank the wonderful staff at the JRA. They are a talented, hardworking group of people who are striving each and every day to make the city of Jackson a better place!

TALK ABOUT A CAREER-DEFINING MOMENT! The driving force behind my decision to leave Atlanta and move to Jackson, Mississippi was the desire to help revive Farish Street. Once the largest concentration of Black-owned businesses in the State of Mississippi, Farish Street has suffered from disinvestment since the 1970s. Numerous attempts by various groups and developers to revitalize Farish Street have failed. The citizens of Jackson are exhausted by empty promises and unending lip service from developers, officials, and, quite honestly, from JRA itself. During my interview for the JRA Executive Director position in November/December, I visited Farish Street alone. As I walked and reflected on its past and envisioned its future, I called my good friend Daaiyah Salaam to share how dire the situation was—worse than anything I'd encountered in my career. It was in this moment, walking the broken blocks of Farish Street, that I decided I was moving to Jackson. For those who know me, you understand that I believe strongly in leadership and the importance of having the right people in the right place at the right time. Money alone won't fix Farish Street; it requires the right people, doing the right things, for the right reasons. This is why I came to Jackson. This will be my final job. We will bring new life, businesses and energy back to Farish Street. It's what the history and essence of Farish Street deserves. Stay tuned! #LeadershipMatters #EconomicDevelopment #TheStandard #LegacyBuilding #FarishStreetForward
