Founded in 1885, the Jacksonville Humane Society is a local, independent non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. JHS provides care, comfort and compassion to animals in need while engaging hearts, hands and minds of our community to bring about an end to the killing of abandoned and orphaned shelter animals. JHS is proud to partner with local agencies to keep Jacksonville a no kill city. In 2022, JHS provided almost 9,000 homeless pets with shelter and medical care as they waited to find loving homes. The Jacksonville Humane Society's Adoption, Education and Pet Help Center is open 7 days a week for adoption. We also offer help for pet owners in need, children's education camps, military veteran training, business partnerships, volunteer opportunities and more! We had such a fun time at Deck the Howls last year, we're bringing it back this year! ❄️🐾 JHS is joining dozens of animal shelters across the country to celebrate the holiday season by “decking the howls” on Friday, December 13, from 5-7pm! Families are invited to spend a festive PAW-liday evening with our pets featuring: 📖The opportunity to get cozy and read holiday stories to the dogs and cats at JHS (bring your favorite holiday book or borrow one of ours!) 🦴Decorating dog cookies ☃️Designing holiday cards for the pets 🎄Crafting animal ornaments 🎁“Gift wrapping” special toys for the cats 💡Competing in animal trivia 🎟️Participating in a one-of-a-kind raffle Yummy holiday treats will be provided by our friends at Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery along with hot cocoa courtesy of Winn-Dixie. Blue crew, it's the update you've been waiting for. Blue is home. 💙🥹🩵 A few weeks ago, Blue joyfully joined her new loving home and has been thriving, to say the least! Her new parents send lots of updates, and we're told she loves playtime with her dog brother, snuggling with her kiddos, and supervising her parents when they work from home. Plus, she's definitely put on some happy weight... and we love it! 😍 When Blue came to JHS at just 17 pounds, we truly didn't know how her story would play out... but you embraced her the whole way. Blue made a miraculous recovery and was given a second chance to live the happy life she deserves because of YOU. 🫵 Over the past few months, you unleashed joy and generosity by sending your love to Blue, not just in your comments and messages, but by sending gifts from her wish list and donations to our Medical Fund. Your support made a lifesaving difference for Blue and for every pet who comes to JHS in need of a little extra help. YOU made a joyful difference in her life, and countless others.
