What a huge win for our client Jamul Indian Village (JIV)! The U.S. Congress has approved the placement of 172 acres of land in the eastern portion of San Diego County into a tribal trust, allowing the tribe to secure its ancestral lands and preserve Kumeyaay traditions. This is particularly significant for JIV, as over time its land has been reduced to a mere six acres. The Jamul Indian Village Land Transfer Act received bipartisan support in the U.S. House and Senate, and moved through the entire legislation process to President Joe Biden’s desk in less than a year, a remarkable accomplishment in today’s Congress. Our Native American practice leader Kerry Patterson has represented JIV for years, and led the firm’s push for this legislation’s introduction and passage, with assistance from practice members Gabriela Magee and Summer Carmack. ⭐️Team Member Success Story⭐️ Robert Morales started his career with Jamul Casino in 2016 as a Guest Services Ambassador. From the very beginning, Robert demonstrated a strong commitment to service excellence, taking on additional responsibilities, such as overseeing the bus shuttles, while ensuring smooth operations in the Guest Services department. His drive and leadership potential were quickly recognized, and in 2019, Robert was promoted to Guest Services Lead, a role that showcased his ability to manage and motivate Team Members effectively. This set the stage for even more growth as Robert transitioned into Marketing in 2020, first as Marketing Coordinator and later as Group Sales Coordinator in 2021. His contributions were crucial to the success of our group sales initiatives, and he continued to prove his value with his promotion to Group Sales Manager in 2022. Throughout his journey, Robert has been an essential part of the Jamul Casino team. As a day one Team Member, he’s been a steady presence, contributing not only to Guest satisfaction but also to the internal operations, including his vital role as the main Spanish translator for both Team Members and Guests. His involvement in new hire orientation and support for HR has been invaluable. Robert’s leadership, dedication, and adaptability have made him an integral member of our team, and we are proud to have him with us every step of the way.
