About us
JARUS is a group of experts from the National Aviation Authorities (NAAs) and regional aviation safety organizations. JARUS recommends technical, safety, and operational requirements to safely integrate Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into aviation. JARUS provides guidance material to facilitate each authority to write their own requirements and avoid duplicated efforts. JARUS has 65 member organizations, 63 countries, as well as EASA and EUROCONTROL. The industry is highly involved through the Industry Stakeholders Body (ISB). JARUS is now lead by Chair Giovanni Di Antonio, Italy, and Vice-Chair Craig Bloch-Hansen, from Canada. The JAURS Secretariat is headed by Secretary General LIU Hao, from China and supported by China, Canada and Portugal.

The 2nd 2024 JARUS Plenary Meeting in Vienna convened global aviation leaders to advance the harmonization of regulations for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Key outcomes included: 1. Long standing coordination and collaboration with ICAO on unmanned aviation regulations. 2. Partnerships with the World Food Programme (WFP) to support humanitarian missions. 3. Engagement with EUSPA to enhance safe UAS operations. 4. Approval of Annex H 2.5 and advancements in SORA 3.0. 5. Proposals to align CS-UAS standards with ICAO Annex 8 and updates to AMC RPAS.1309 to address scenarios like high-altitude platform systems (HAPS) and multi-system operations. 6. Developed operational manual guidance for Category B Remote Pilot Certification (RPC) 7. Strategic discussions on the missions and priorities of JARUS in the future. 📢 Exciting Update from JARUS! We are pleased to announce the release of the JARUS CS-HAPS publication, prepared by WG-AW. This document provides airworthiness recommendations for High Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS), guiding the Type Certification process to ensure their safe, secure, and sustainable integration into global airspace. 🔍 Key Highlights of CS-HAPS: HAPS Safety Concept: Covers automated functions, human interventions, mission control human factors, conditional initial airworthiness for long-duration missions, and collaborative traffic management. Section 1: General recommendations applicable to all HAPS. Section 2: Structural recommendations for HTA fixed wing HAPS. Section 3: Structural recommendations for LTA airship HAPS. Section 4: References to EASA CS.31 GB and acceptable risk levels, plus valuable documents from the HAPS Alliance. Future Updates: Further elaboration on structural and other requirements for LTA balloon HAPS.
