  • The Jersey City Free Public Library would like to thank Governor Phil Murphy for showing his support of libraries by signing the Freedom to Read Act.     This landmark legislation safeguards the availability of books in public libraries and schools across New Jersey. The Act also provides protections for library staff against lawsuits for complying with this law.     In 2023, the Jersey City Free Public Library proudly declared itself a Book Sanctuary, reaffirming our commitment to libraries' vital role in protecting intellectual freedom and exploration. At a time in our country when the right to access diverse ideas faces increasing challenges, we remain dedicated to providing Welcoming Spaces for curiosity, learning, and open dialogue.
