Can we combat loneliness through design? Architecture shapes more than buildings; it influences how people connect, live, and thrive together. With a focus on human-centered design, participatory methods, and social science, architects can tackle issues like loneliness, inequality, and public health—turning spaces into catalysts for social change. The design manual A Human Approach to Architecture by Oslo's Comte Bureau reveals how architecture, at its best, responds to people’s needs and nurtures a sense of belonging. While the pool remained untouched during the Rivercrest Modern remodel, the surrounding landscape underwent a thoughtful transformation. We extended the wood-accented roof at the back patio and eliminated the central column, opening up a warm, inviting space perfect for poolside gatherings right off the game room. To further enhance the flow, we swapped out the bulky stone columns for sleek steel ones, bringing a more modern and streamlined aesthetic. Just beyond the outdoor grill, we retained the cozy courtyard and fireplace, offering a perfect spot for fireside chats while providing a lovely view from inside the home. What is vernacular architecture? In architecture, "vernacular" refers to designs that are native to a specific region or culture, using local materials, traditional building methods, and elements that respond to the environment and cultural practices of the area. Although vernacular architecture often stems from knowledge passed down over generations, it still demands a deep understanding of local materials, climate, and construction techniques, usually possessed by regional builders and craftsmen. While it can adapt to modern technologies, vernacular architecture stays rooted in the practice of incorporating innovations in ways that honor local traditions and environmental needs. 🦃 As we gather around our tables this Thanksgiving, it's not just the meal that brings us together—it's the shared stories, the quiet moments of reflection, and the gratitude for the small and great things that shape our lives. Today, we pause to recognize the importance of home, the spaces we build, and the memories that fill them. This season reminds us that the beauty in life isn't just in grand gestures or accomplishments, but in the comfort of shared experiences and the joy of simply being present with those we care about. Whether you're surrounded by family, friends, or spending the day in quiet reflection, we hope you find peace and warmth in the moments that truly matter. From all of us, we wish you a Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, meaningful connections, and the comfort of home. 🍂 #happythanksgiving #thanksgivingday

In September 2024, Morphosis unveiled the 57,000-square-foot Crow Art Museum of Asian Art at The University of Texas at Dallas, as part of a broader 12-acre cultural district on the Richardson campus. This new precinct will feature two museums, a performing arts center, and a grand plaza. Arne Emerson, the partner leading the master plan for the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Jr. Athenæum, emphasized the goal of integrating the arts into daily campus life through creative, interactive spaces. This ambitious vision aims to enhance the learning and cultural experience for the UT Dallas community. Check it out at https://buff.ly/4gJtduu. #utd #crowartmuseum

The Rivercrest Modern home originally featured 2'x3' slate tiles and dark stone walls, giving it an imposing, almost 'prison-like' atmosphere despite its clean structure. To better align with the client’s vision of a serene, everyday retreat, we replaced the slate with bright white stucco and introduced warm wood accents, dramatically lightening and softening the overall feel. This remodel prioritized preservation over demolition, keeping costs manageable and minimizing the environmental impact. We also incorporated new metal roofing, stucco, and treated wood siding to reduce future maintenance, while ensuring lasting beauty. Extended overhangs were thoughtfully added, offering both sun protection and additional waterproofing, allowing rooms to stay cool and dry even in the hot Texas climate. In recent years, continuous material finishes have gained popularity, especially in branding-driven retail spaces. These finishes, often liquid-applied and cured, create smooth, seamless surfaces without visible joints or seams—at least initially. With an expanding array of colors, textures, and functional features, these finishes are becoming more versatile. Interestingly, the look achieved with these seamless interiors resembles the aesthetic of 3D renderings, where fluid, uninterrupted surfaces dominate. The following article highlights 12 different design projects that utilizes this technique. To learn more, visit https://buff.ly/4fyovis. #designinnovation #architectureinnovation
