Another day, another fish passage. Over the past few years, Jensen's team in Puyallup, Washington, has worked closely with the local government to help update the state's aging culvert infrastructure. Typically, the culvert being replaced is a narrow corrugated pipe that hinders fish in their spawning journey. Fish species like salmon and steelhead are born in freshwater then migrate to the ocean to mature into adults. Eventually, those same fish swim back to their freshwater spawning grounds to reproduce, so ensuring their journey is easier is in the best interest of Washington State because a vibrant fish population is vital to the state's culture and commerce. This installation on Newberry Road in Kitsap County not only opened up the creek bed to allow fish passage, it also reconnected a natural wildlife corridor. Now, with a brand new precast concrete culvert, migrating fish have more than enough space to complete their lengthy journey. #jenseninfrastructure #manufacturing #engineering #culvert

Innovative stormwater solutions: Culver City's underground retention system showcases the power of precast engineering. In Culver City, California, a significant infrastructure project has been completed to enhance stormwater management and urban runoff control. The initiative involved the installation of a massive underground stormwater retention system designed to capture and treat urban runoff from approximately 334 watershed acres. Jensen Precast collaborated with stakeholders to manufacture over 500 pieces of precast concrete for this endeavor. The system includes two hydrodynamic separators and a 30-foot-tall pump station, working in unison to treat, capture, and retain stormwater. This comprehensive approach not only addresses environmental concerns by preventing pollutants from reaching the Pacific Ocean but also contributes to water conservation efforts by facilitating the reuse of captured stormwater. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is building a new dam at a vital reservoir to protect a precious portion of the Los Angeles aqueduct from significant damage in the case of a major earthquake. As part of phase two of this remote project 180 miles north of Los Angeles, Jensen worked with multiple stakeholders to coordinate a smooth and safe delivery. On day one, ten trucks delivered the bottom sections. On day two, ten trucks delivered the top sections. Making this a breezy two-day installation Here is an excerpt from our recent story on this project: Phase two of this massive project has two steps. First, realign the Los Angeles Aqueduct. Next, create a diversion channel. The aqueduct needs to be realigned to make way for the new dam, while the diversion channel is going to be used to fill the newfound basin created between the two dams with water, increasing the reservoir’s storage capacity. However, adding a diversion channel now creates a challenge. How will construction crews cross the channel to complete the dam while still allowing water to flow freely into the basin? With a Jensen segmental Type 2 box culvert. “The box culvert is acting as a bridge over the diversion channel,” says Christopher Franco, Project Engineer for Road and Highway Builders, the contractor on this project. “They are 18’W x 18’H culvert side by side with a 3” gap between them. The culvert structure is running right through our diversion channel and the structure will be used as a bridge for an access point building the dam.” In other words, the culvert is a crucial cog in a colossal project.
