eJewishPhilanthropy "It was Monday morning, Oct. 9, 2023, just 15 minutes before the school bell. Waiting for my students to arrive, I sat alone in a quiet classroom, a closed siddur on each desk and sets of tefillin neatly arranged along the row where the boys usually clumped together, keeping to their own invisible mechitza within our 10th-grade classroom. The job of Jewish educator had never felt so heavy on my shoulders." https://lnkd.in/gHq9fF-t

The Forward "Approximately 360,000 victims, mostly Jews, were murdered at Majdanek, the gas chambers of which remain largely intact. “They gave our crew the tour that the characters take in the movie,” Eisenberg explained, “And I remember the crew was just crying. These are Poles, our crew.” https://lnkd.in/gB2v87Z2

NPR "You can't escape the mountains in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. They're everywhere you turn. And it can seem like the entire town is obsessed with the slopes. Artist Randy Salky is no exception. But when he's not skiing, he's tinkering. And you can see the evidence at his house. The yard is decorated with his found object sculptures, built with tent poles and broken pottery. His latest creation pulls from his Jewish identity with a bit of local flavor mixed in." https://lnkd.in/g4Vqy8pM

JTA "As I got older, I became more dedicated to Jewish ritual observance. One winter when Christmas and Hanukkah overlapped, as it does this year, my extended family had the opportunity to offer a similar love back to me. When the time came for candle lighting, I got out the Hanukkah menorah we had brought from home intending to light it just with my parents. But when the rest of the family heard what was happening, they all wanted to join. As I kindled the flames and recited the blessings, I got to explain what this ritual was and what it meant to me." https://lnkd.in/e5pYmCp3

"The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) General Assembly gathered from November 16-18 in Washington, D.C., bringing together 2,500 attendees from 146 Federations in North America. The JEWISHcolorado delegation of more than 15 people included several JEWISHcolorado staff and a dozen lay leaders. For Jackie Sprinces Wong, this was just the most recent of many General Assemblies she has attended. In her own words, here is her most recent experience." https://lnkd.in/gmCVBzi4

Tablet Magazine "So take a guess what Mile End is serving on Christmas Day. That’s right: Chinese food. Titled a “traditional Jewish Christmas,” the prix fixe—served to two seatings on Christmas Eve and four on Christmas Day and made right in the kitchen—will start with wonton eggdrop soup, continue to roast duck with smoked-meat fried rice and Chinese broccoli, and end with fortune cookies and orange wedges. It’s your traditional Chinese meal, made hip, and—with that crucial addition of smoked meat—brushed gently with Mile End’s idiosyncrasy." https://lnkd.in/ghV_UhR5
