JISR The Bridge Film Festival, powered by SWAPAC, Cinepluto in partnership with the Singapore Business Federation, Middle East Institute - NUS, Smart Cities Network_ASEAN and World Future Enterprises. Sponsored by Asyad Shipping and Ooredoo Group. Iskandar Malaysia Studios (IMS) graciously sponsored a film studio day tour as part of the JISR The Bridge Film Festival. IMS, located on a 20-hectare (49-acre) site in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia, is a state-of-the-art film studio complex. We were blown away by their capacity 100,000 sq. ft. of film stages, 6 acres of period standing sets, 3 water filming tanks and 12,000 sq. ft of Virtual Production Studios topped with key advantages such as the favorable exchange rates (Local Malaysian Currency). The tour aimed to explore pre- and post-production opportunities between the GCC and Asia Pacific regions, leveraging the Film in Malaysia Initiative (FIMI) scheme with up to a 35% rebate. The tour provided attendees with an in-depth look at the facilities and capabilities of IMS, showcasing how the studio could serve as a hub for collaborative film and media projects. Overall the visit highlighted the potential for joint ventures, skill-sharing, and innovation in the film industry, fostering stronger ties and business relationships between the two regions. We thank Rashid Karim CEO of Iskandar Malaysia Studios for the groundbreaking tour and Nick GC Tan CEO of Oceanus Media Global for showcasing their cutting edge virtual production technologies. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the groundbreaking leap into sci-fi from the GCC! Starchaser, the region's first sci-fi film in CGI, produced by Barajoun Studios and based on Noura Al-Noman's award-winning YA novel, takes us on an epic journey through new galaxies. Following a young refugee’s quest for survival, the film brilliantly adapts the essence of Season 1 of the TV series Ajwan. This screening was part of a tribute to GCC Animation, where Starchaser was paired with the award-winning short films EMSAHAR, produced by the Doha Film Institute, and SALEEG, the first Saudi stop-motion film from Cinewaves Films. It was an exciting glimpse into the future of animation and sci-fi in the Gulf—a genre and storytelling tradition that is set to inspire audiences across the globe.
