What does it mean when you have TWO layers of felt on your roof? A little lesson in re-roofing: The decking, or “wood sheathing” which acts as the foundation of your roofing system can become damaged overtime. A roof replacement is the perfect time to remedy this issue. 👌🏼 The decking needs to be a “nail-able surface”. Meaning, the wood sheathing is in good enough condition to be able to hold the nails down and withstand wind, hail and rain storms while keeping your roof intact. 🔨 At JL Contractors, we make sure to remove every layer of roofing material in order to take a good look at the decking of your roof. 👏🏼 So, what does it mean when there are two layers of felt on a steep slope? 🤔 During a roof replacement, if we find that you have two layers of felt on the steep slopes of your roof, we can usually conclude that your last contractor did not inspect your decking. 🫣 If your Contractor is not removing the felt to inspect your roof’s decking during your roof replacement, how would they know if your decking is in good shape? 🤷🏼♀️ Homeowner advice: Know your Contractor’s reputation.
