Another great GMM in the books! At this month’s meeting, our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Council led an activity and training on belonging. Belonging is important when it comes to building a fair and equitable society as it focuses on a basic human need. While inclusion creates the opportunity, belonging is the feeling of truly being a part of the team. During the month of October, instead of a traditional General Membership Meeting (GMM), members opened up their homes to host small group GMMs. This style of meeting allows for members to build deeper relationships with one another and engage in meaningful discussions. During the meetings, we watched an awesome video about the history of Junior Leagues - featuring an appearance from JLB Sustainer and Past President, Shiela Jones - before diving into a discussion about political efficacy and how we can be change-makers. To celebrate spooky season, our October HAVEN Family Fun Night activity involved creating these adorable paper plate spiders! We loved seeing the kids (and adults!) have fun and embrace their creativity. HAVEN is Oakland County’s only comprehensive program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. They provide shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 people each year.
