🎉 JMG Honored with Maine Futures Award! JMG is grateful to receive the Maine Futures Award from the Maine Black Chamber of Commerce (MBCC), recognizing our shared commitment to mentorship, representation, and community. Emma Sinden, JMG Specialist at Portland High School, accepted the award from JOSHUA BRISTER and Malik Hall of MBCC, celebrating the power of partnership. In her remarks, Emma reflected on what it means for students to see themselves in leadership, be welcomed into new spaces, and have their voices lifted. MBCC’s dedication to connection, mentorship, and expanding perspectives has created lasting impact, ensuring students gain opportunities and experience a true sense of belonging. Student Leadership in Action! We are thrilled to spotlight our incredible JMG students at Sanford Middle School, whose leadership, problem-solving skills, and commitment to their peers are making a real difference through the Snack Dash initiative! What started as a classroom discussion about food insecurity three years ago has grown into an essential program that helps ensure snacks are available for students throughout the school day. When the original grant funding ran out last year, these students didn’t hesitate—they took action and secured new funding to keep Snack Dash going strong this school year! We couldn’t be more proud of their dedication to making a difference. Read more about their impact: https://lnkd.in/esnAhxp5

JMG is thrilled to partner with the Maine Celtics to bring the Playbook Initiative to middle school students in Portland and South Portland! Inspired by Boston Celtics players and launched by the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, the Playbook Initiative is an anti-discrimination and bias-prevention program. Through open conversations about race, gender, disability, and more, it equips students with the tools to challenge bias, prevent discrimination, and promote inclusivity. Last week, we kicked off this transformative program at the Portland Expo, where students began a journey toward creating more inclusive communities. High school student Trainers guided middle school participants as they discussed real-life scenarios, exploring how they might respond to challenging social situations and take action to create positive change. Their insights and efforts are impactful, and we’re grateful to the Maine Celtics for partnering with JMG to empower students as they grow into thoughtful and inclusive leaders.

Healthcare partnerships are essential to workforce development in Maine, and this story beautifully highlights the connections that can happen along the way. At JMG, we are dedicated to connecting Maine students with real-world career pathways, including in the healthcare sector. The Northern Light Health NICU nurse’s visit to the classroom at Thornton Academy was already a valuable opportunity to share insights into a critical field—but it became even more special when it was discovered that one of the students was one of her NICU babies from years ago. Moments like these remind us how deeply interconnected our communities are and why this work matters so much. Thank you, Junior Achievement of Maine, for facilitating this incredible experience and for joining in the collective effort to support Maine students and their futures!

JA Maine is a bridge, connecting community members and business professionals from all walks of life to teachers and students across Maine. . In this case, working with an educational partner JMG, JA Maine was able to connect a Northern Light Health NICU nurse who joined classroom at Thornton Academy to share her career field with the class with a student who was in her care eighteen years ago. . Maine is such a special place, and we’re thankful to have partnerships throughout the state that allows for connections such as this to be made. Deepening partnerships is core to our work, to learn more about getting involved with JA or volunteering in the classroom, visit the link in our bio.
