We will deeply miss Jay’s kindness and passion for all that’s good and right in the world. When someone we admire dies so young, we have to resolve to give the fight our all and take care of ourselves.

The U.S. climate movement is only as strong as its leaders, and Jaykumar (Jay) Mehta from Jobs to Move America was an exceptional one. Jay passed away last week, but his passion and commitment to economic justice, the power of the worker, and a just clean energy transition impacted so many communities. We extend our deepest condolences to Jay’s family, colleagues, and community. For further details, please refer to this link: https://lnkd.in/e2SGfmcx

  • 🌎🌱 Imagine a future where everyone has access to good jobs and a healthy environment. By choosing to invest in Jobs to Move America today, your dollars can drive change and help make that future a reality. Just recently, JMA filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to ensure a fair bidding process for a $730-million order of rail cars. This is a critical step towards ensuring public funds are used responsibly and create good, union jobs, and it wouldn't be possible without the support of our donors. Your support helps us: 🔸 Win community benefits agreements that set workers up for success in the green economy 🔸 Win policies on the federal and local level that create good jobs in our communities 🔸 Do on-the-ground organizing that moves the needle in creating a fair economy for all of us 🔸 Conduct important research on working conditions and green technology ... and much more. Together, we can achieve a just, clean, and worker-centered economy. [Photo: JMA's first cohort of pre-apprenticeship participants at New Flyer. • 🔌 💡The future of energy is electric It's an exciting time to be a part of this transformation to a brighter economy, but we need to ensure that this transition benefits everyone, not just a select few. That's where Jobs to Move America comes in. We're working tirelessly to ensure that the shift to clean energy creates good jobs, protects our environment, and strengthens communities. Community Benefits Agreements (CBAs) are a powerful tool to achieve this goal. By negotiating with companies to secure good jobs, environmental protections, and community investments, we can shape a sustainable and equitable future. By donating to JMA, you'll be helping us: ⚡️ Negotiate strong CBAs: These agreements ensure that new projects create good jobs, protect the environment, and invest in local communities. ⚡️ Empower workers and communities: Our Community Benefits Agreement Resource Center (CBARC) provides tools and resources to help communities advocate for their needs. This Giving Tuesday, join us in building a better future. Your donation—no matter the size—will help power a just electric future. • 💜 Join me for Giving Tuesday! As a JMA board member, I want to express my gratitude for your interest in our mission to advance a fair and prosperous economy with good jobs and healthier communities for all. I am deeply connected to this work because I see how JMA positively impacts lives by: 🔸Advocating for economic mobility through the creation of higher wage jobs with advancement opportunities. 🔸Promoting fair business and procurement practices. 🔸 Enacting progressive labor standards policies, particularly for people of color who have historically had limited access to opportunities. Our work directly impacts individuals and families trying to make the American Dream their American reality. I am proud of what we have accomplished and remain hopeful about what we can achieve with your continued support. Please consider making a generous gift on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Thank you! Cecilia Estolano JMA Board Member #GivingTuesday #nonprofit #fundraising

I will admit this was hard for me to watch, these were 19 of the most challenging months I have ever experienced. However, I would make the choice again to stand against corporate greed and worker exploitation. This strike lead me to where I am today in the movement with an organization fighting for change.

  • 💜 As we approach the holiday season, don’t forget Giving Tuesday, a chance to support our work as we head into the new year. On December 3, Giving Tuesday is a global movement dedicated to generosity. Your contributions will help us continue our vital work of advancing a fair and prosperous economy with good jobs and healthier communities for all. We realize that the fight for good jobs and worker power is more crucial now than ever. At a time when divisions in America are deep, and the opposition feels monumental, we’re rising up and doubling down on our work. When we win, we do it because we work together. Come join the movement with us! When you invest in Jobs to Move America, you fund the critical work of fostering the conditions for an inclusive democracy, equitable economy, and healthy environment that works for all communities. • In this Sunday’s edition of The New York Times, the unsettling truth about prison labor in Alabama is brought to light, including a legal filing by labor union representatives claiming over 100 public agencies and about 575 companies in Alabama have used imprisoned people for labor since 2018. Will Tucker, JMA's Southern Director, discussed the pressing need to reform the current system, emphasizing that it represents a troubling “sweetheart deal for employers.” These workers face coercion with little recourse, all while their labor fills corporate coffers and state budgets. 💬✨ Join us in discussing this critical issue! What are your thoughts on the ethics of prison labor? How can we advocate for more humane and fair labor practices for all workers, including those who are incarcerated? https://lnkd.in/gQbz747Q #prisonlabor #EconomicJustice #ForcedLabor #13thamendment #WorkersRights #nytimes

The state of Alabama makes $450 million a year by garnishing the wages of prisoners in its "work-release" program. These prisoners, all of whom are non-violent offenders and not considered a safety risk, and many of whom are serving double-digit sentences for crimes like marijuana possession and burglary, are working for #Hyundai suppliers, providing cheap (and unfree) labor. It's a system that is profoundly exploitative and in urgent need of reform. Hyundai can do better than relying on a coerced prison #labor system to make its automobiles..
