Last month, JAMA visited Western Wood Structures Inc. in Tualatin, Oregon to see these glulam columns in fabrication. Today, the columns were installed on site at the University of Southern California Football Performance Center – with rainy day precautions in place! These columns are 24” square by 33 feet tall and made up of glulam connected by wood screws and adhesive. In the finished Type IV-B building they will support steel beams and concrete-filled metal deck at the weight room and central atrium. This is JAMA’s commitment to sustainable structural design and SE2050 on display.   The Football Performance Center will be a three-story, 180,000 GSF structure, that will serve as the new home for Trojan football - housing football operations, player development, and athlete recruitment spaces.   Stay tuned for more project updates! At JAMA, we thrive on tackling complex design challenges that help bring architectural visions to life. Our recent collaboration with Cal Pac Sheet Metal, Inc., Bomel Construction Company Inc., and Parking Design Solutions (PDS) on the City of Fontana Parking Structure was a perfect example of how strategic engineering supports innovative design. This 5-story parking structure features a decorative stairwell shaft enclosure, designed by PDS and built by Bomel, incorporating aluminum panel systems that required careful structural analysis. JAMA designed five unique aluminum panel conditions, ensuring they could span the designated dimensions while also engineering a secondary support structure for larger openings. By supporting Cal Pac Sheet Metal with their delegated design scope, we helped streamline the process, ensuring efficiency, constructability, and durability in the final installation. Construction is progressing quickly for the new University of Southern California Bloom Football Performance Center since the groundbreaking ceremony held two months ago! The USC Football Performance Center is a three story, approximately 180,000 GSF structure, that will serve as the new home for Trojan football - housing football operations and performance spaces.
