We're thrilled to launch our new Venture Mentoring Program, using a team approach to support entrepreneurs. At JHTV, we believe in mentorship and community. We've been collaborating with great organizations and are committed to increasing equity funding resources in our region. Together, we're building a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem. Stay tuned for more updates!
Super excited that I had the chance to take part in the pilot training session for Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) brand new Venture Mentoring Program. The program is modeled on MIT Venture Mentoring Service which uses a team approach to guide entrepreneurs. I’m sure you’ll hear more about this later as I don’t want to steal too much of their thunder. Now that I have some free time, I’m eager to pay forward all of the little favors I received on my own entrepreneurial journey with Circulomics Inc. There’s no way I would’ve succeeded without all those little pushes I got, some formal and many informal with no expectation of receiving any benefit in return. Over the past 6 months, I’ve been spending more time supporting great organizations such as Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV), BioTools Innovator, UpSurge Baltimore, and Nucleate Baltimore | DC as well as individual companies that I’m working with directly. I’ve also been thinking about how to help local companies with capital. Companies need talent, and they need capital. We did it at Circulomics by bootstrapping grant funding to drive R&D and partnering to boost commercialization. However, not every company can do that. There needs to be more equity funding resources in the region. Smarter people than me have already been tackling this problem for a while but I’m happy to lend my time and resources to give back to the region that’s helped put me where I am. Shout out to the JHTV VMP A-Team Christina DeMur and Justin Berger

Congratulations to the presenters from our 5th annual Pitch It On! competition, and a special recognition for our $20,000 prize winner: Mary Austin, PT, DPT, WCS and her team from UrInControl! Their startup is developing an over-the-counter pessary for women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Each year, JHTV hosts this pitch competition, showcasing Johns Hopkins University women inventors who present their technologies to coaches and a live audience. This year, in honor of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, Mary, along with her the other presenters, Selena Shirkin, and Jordan Shuff, pitched their innovations on November 19 to an audience of over 250 people. We were also joined by pitch coaches and JHU alums Gayathri Badrinath and Colleen Cutcliffe.
