🚨 MAOC-N Supports Spanish Operation in the Atlantic – 4 Tonnes of Cocaine Seized 🔍 Over the past weeks, information has been developed and shared through MAOC-N, that a fishing vessel would be crossing the Atlantic carrying a significant amount of cocaine destined for an unknown location off the Iberian Peninsula. As the target approached European waters, it was possible to put in place an operational plan agreed by several partners, in order to interdict the GLORIA FIGUEIROA at sea, before it could transfer the load to other vessels. ⚓ In the early hours of the 12th of November, the Spanish Navy patrol vessel Atalaya, supported by the Special Operations (GEO) group and officers from the Spanish National Police, boarded the GLORIA FIGUEIROA in a position 400nm off Las Palmas (Canary Islands.) The Spanish boarding team was able to identify 100 bales of cocaine in the fish hold, specially conceived to be easily transferred to other vessels at sea. ⚖ The vessel was escorted to Las Palmas, where the crew of 14 Ecuadorians and 1 French was presented to the competent judicial authorities. 🤝 This significant result is a consequence of extensive exchanges between several law enforcement partners on both sides of the Atlantic. Besides the Spanish National Police and Armada, this operation was supported by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Joint Interagency Task Force South, the Politie Nederland, the Direction nationale du renseignement et des enquêtes douanières and the Fusion Center of the Armada Nacional de Colombia.

The participants of the Combined Force Maritime Component Commander (CFMCC) course, a flag-level professional military education focused on command and control of multinational maritime forces, spent the day at Joint Interagency Task Force South. The CFMCC course prepares U.S. and partner nation officers for regional leadership and gives them a broad perspective of the operational level of war. Orientation at Joint Interagency Task Force South is an important part of this training, it provides valuable information on effective inter-service, inter-agency, and international cooperation. This is a prime example of how coordinated efforts make an impact in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and contribute to national security. #somosJIATFS 2.3 tons of cocaine, valued at more than 78 million dollars, were seized 290 nautical miles from the San Andrés Archipelago, in a maritime control operation by @FNC_ArmadaCol in coordination with @FuerzaAereaCol and Joint Interagency Task Force South Despite the adverse conditions, the coast guard units intercepted the vessel, recovering 116 packages of cocaine that had been thrown into the sea. This seizure prevented the sale of more than five million doses of drugs around the world. The Public Force uses all its capabilities to combat drug trafficking and protect communities in San Andrés and Providencia.
