About us

Jonquil Ridge is a boutique consulting firm specializing in blending market research and market strategy for medical technology clients. We help med tech leaders who know where to play unlock how to win. With 20+ years of experience leading marketing and strategy projects at medical device companies including Medtronic and Boston Scientific, I founded Jonquil Ridge to bring this unique skill set to ventures of all sizes.   Our services include opportunity identification, product/service concept development, and go-to-market strategy development. We are methodology-agnostic, often starting with qualitative interviews, but then following needs for quantitative surveys or data analysis as they appear. A few things that make us unique are our Jonquil Ridge Market Strategy Scorecard, 5 Key Insights in every report, and our Jonquil Ridge Innovation Lab Experience.   Recent projects have included: *Helping a neuromodulation client identify the 5 best commercial opportunities to win out of 20+ potential clinical applications, *Leading a cardiac rhythm management client to create new education and support strategies for a novel digital technology solution, and *Defining voice of customer needs and target market size for a biotech accelerator client in the skin cancer space.

  • Q. How do you approach analyzing text responses from qualitative research to ensure you capture the most valuable insights? Is it always important to document and analyze every nuance and every word of an interview? The short answer is: it all depends! Once we know the key decisions the team needs to make and critical questions to answer to be able to make them, we use those as filters to design the data gathering workstreams including how many people we’ll interview, what topics make the discussion guide, stimuli to share on-screen for feedback, and the analysis and reporting approach. This week we’ll talk about when the broad strokes are most important. Next week, we’ll cover when deep text analysis wins out. If you are conducting what we like to call “Discovery” research -- you’re very early in learning about a new problem to solve or a new-to-you customer group -- we’re looking to identify recurring patterns and key themes for you. We complete the interviews, then we look for the “story” of the five new and most important learnings for you and your situation – 5 Key Insights to Win™. Then, we analyze the transcripts to confirm those patterns and themes hold up in the entire data set and illustrate the story with direct quotes – often referred to as verbatims – to illustrate those most important insights or to show where there’s a diversity of perspectives in the sample and likely your market. What strategies do you find most effective? Have a question? Reach out today > https://lnkd.in/ek9NA4ur. • Q. What’s a segmentation strategy? And how would it make a difference if we had one? We need to sell to everyone! A segmentation strategy divides your market into distinct groups based on shared characteristics like needs, behaviors, or demographics. This approach allows you to tailor your messaging, product offerings, and marketing efforts to each segment, increasing relevance and conversion rates. Without it, you risk a generic approach that may dilute your impact. A well-defined segmentation strategy ensures you reach the right customers with the right message. Yes, your leadership and sales teams may push your organization to sell to everyone you possibly can, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should market to everyone. Have a question? Reach out today > https://lnkd.in/ek9NA4ur. We’d love to help. #MarketingStrategy #Segmentation #CustomerTargeting #BusinessGrowth #MarketResearch

  • Q. Are you more focused on upstream projects or downstream projects? Our services cover the full span of upstream, midstream, and downstream projects. We use our unique talents to ask great questions and use structured frameworks to help leaders and teams make progress faster. We have happy clients who have used those skills to ask very early-stage questions and shape market and product strategies (also known as Upstream) as well as applying these to segmentation, positioning, messaging and launch tactic development (Downstream). • Q. What's the difference between primary and secondary research methods? Do I need both? A. In medical technology, primary research involves gathering original data through methods like surveys, interviews, and clinical trials, offering direct insights into user needs and market trends. Secondary research, on the other hand, involves analyzing existing data, such as published studies and market reports, to gain context and background. Using both methods is often crucial: primary research provides specific, tailored insights, while secondary research offers a broader perspective, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the market landscape. Do you have a question?
