The mandatory return-to-office (#RTO) movement isn’t a stranger to any of us. Corporations are mandating a return-to-office across the board for their remote employees, many of whom are fighting back and in most cases are departing for new opportunities. According to a recent study, companies saw a 14% increase in employees choosing to leave rather than RTO and a major chunk of this demographic were women who held higher-level roles. This is a major step back not only for the women of the #Channel, but for women everywhere. The Great RTO is not only disrupting the careers of women who came into employment during the pandemic, but it is also bringing back that old barrier for entry for those women looking to start their careers but might not be able to make the commute. This greatly impacts women who are expectant mothers or those who find themselves in roles such as caregivers which is often unexpected. Many, including myself, see this as a great step back from the progress we made during and after the pandemic. This disruption can lead to women falling behind once again in the corporate world and losing the ground we've fought so hard for.
