  • Exits are back! The PitchBook 2024 Annual US PE Breakdown confirms that the hopes of Q3 have blossomed into Q4’s reality. Exits are up in value and count along with big IPOs, and deals—including classic platform buyouts—have surged. Fundraising continues to lag, but $1 trillion+ of dry powder can back a lot of deals. Our latest blog dives deeper into the state of private equity, focusing on: 🚪Exits, where values rose by almost 50% from 2023, driven by 16 IPOs that raised $40.6 billion. Counts also soared, but the current inventory—eight years’ worth at current rates— requires greater activity.  🤝 Deals, where value and counts climbed by double digits. Add-ons and carve-outs continued to outperform as GPs added value to their portfolio companies and CEOs rationalized their operations. 💰 Fundraising, in which 311 funds, a record low, raised roughly $300 billion. Funds spent a median of 16.2 months in the market, reflecting the lack of distributions for LPs to reinvest. At last, 2025 looks poised for cautious optimism. Further interest rate cuts, along with an easier regulatory environment, seem likely to spur growth in PE, although there’s still room for caution. Consider the PE forecast to be a mix of sun and clouds with exits. Get the highlights: https://lnkd.in/ggSP94J3

  • Looking for a recovery in 2025. According to data from  PitchBook/NVCA Venture Monitor for Q4 2024, VC trends from the earlier quarters continued, but changes in the regulatory regime under the new administration may boost 2025’s exit activity, providing liquidity and breaking the industry’s stasis. Our latest blog dives deeper into the state of venture capital in 2024 and its prospects for 2025, focusing on: 📈 Fundraising saw big funds with proven distribution records account for the majority of capital, and emerging managers continue to struggle. 🚪 Exits climbed slightly in number and value from 2023, but included a few large transactions. 🤝 Deals were dominated by AI activity, making up 29% of transactions and 42% of value.
