Young Lawyers Section Board Spotlight: Emily Depew, Mock Trial Vice-Chair Emily is a research attorney with the Kansas Court of Appeals and an accomplished advocate. A 2023 graduate of KU Law, Emily is a three-time moot court national champion, earning multiple best speaker awards and recognition for her advocacy skills, including the Polsinelli Advocacy Award and the Robert J. Dole Service to Country Award. Emily also holds a bachelor's degree in history, political science, and WGSS from KU, earning honors in all three majors. She continues to inspire future advocates as an adjunct professor coaching KU Law's moot court teams. With her dedication to advocacy and mentorship, Emily brings exceptional passion to the Mock Trial Committee. Young Lawyers Section Board Spotlight: Meredith Ashley, Mock Trial Chair Meredith is in her fourth year with the committee and has been instrumental in reviving the Kansas High School Mock Trial Competition post-COVID. This program engages students in litigation, public speaking, and courtroom processes through regional competitions in Olathe and Wichita and a state competition in Topeka. Meredith earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Tulsa and her law degree from the University of Iowa before returning to her hometown of Overland Park. Now a partner at Kidd Laflin Kilburg PC LLO, she specializes in workers' compensation defense, representing employers across Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa.
