Our viewers answered the call to help the community! KCCI had two large outreach efforts in the last several days. Following the tornados in Greenfield, Iowa, we set up a phone bank and donation portal for the American Red Cross, which has raised $48,268. We also partnered with Hy-Vee, Inc., to address food insecurity going into the summer with our 'Pack the Pantry' campaign. We ran news stories and advertising encouraging people to give. Hy-Vee ensured their shoppers would see the list of the items needed most. 31 stores collected and distributed food to 55 local pantries, and shoppers could round up at the register to help. Through all the donations, we were able to provide 347,830 meals to Iowans who are food-insecure while raising important awareness of the need. #communityservice #broadcasting

Dozens of colleagues from KCCI rolled up their sleeves and enjoyed a beautiful day helping the community. One team picked up trash at Riverview Park, and another cleaned up damage from a recent tornado in Pleasant Hill. KCCI’s morning anchor and volunteer coordinator, Alyx Sacks, summed up everyone's efforts in an email to the station, “Both sites’ clean-up efforts were tremendous and noticeable. Organizers from each site also expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude for our help. Seeing Iowa’s News Leader in action means a lot!”
