KeithRN provides innovative educational tools and strategies to better prepare nursing students for practice.

About us

KeithRN was established in 2012 by Keith Rischer, PhD, RN, CCRN, CEN, to lead the changes needed to transform nursing education and close the persistent gap between how nursing is taught and practiced. We create tools to engage students to become active participants in learning and empower nurse educators with innovative resources that develop clinical judgment so students graduate well-prepared for practice and licensure. Over the past 10 years, KeithRN has continued to fulfill the company’s original commitment to designing products that integrate caring and educational best practices while emphasizing both the art and science of nursing. KeithRN resources empower nurse educators to: Reignite a passion for teaching by providing evidence-based tools and teaching strategies that engage students as active participants in their learning. Ease faculty workload by providing organized, essential information that saves nursing educators precious time. Help faculty “stay ahead of the curve” by routinely updating resources using research- and evidence-based practices. Thousands of educators and students throughout the United States and in several foreign countries have successfully relied on KeithRN to help reach their teaching goals and improve student outcomes. Vision KeithRN leads the reformation in nursing education to ensure all nurses graduate with the caring and clinical judgment skills essential for safe nursing practice, leading to improved patient outcomes. Mission KeithRN serves the needs of nurse educators by providing practical and innovative educational tools, resources, and strategies to better prepare students for practice.

  • After attending the inaugural conference, “Educating Nurses: A Radical Transformation 2025,” I returned energized by our work at KeithRN! Presenters shared practical solutions to implement needed change that emphasize educational best practices to prepare our graduates for practice. It was a pleasure to participate as an exhibitor and presenter of a breakout session, “Beyond Transformation: A Call to Radically Reform Nursing Education." Dr. Garrett Chan, the CEO of HealthImpact, and the team at HealthImpact did an incredible job organizing this innovative conference, setting the stage for a reformation in nursing education! Keynotes from education leaders, including Patricia Benner, Chris Tanner, Pat Kyriakidis, and MaryAnn Jessee, provided a clear path for educators to transform how nursing is taught. If you attended this conference, share what you learned that will empower you to better prepare your graduates for practice!

    • It was great to meet Dr. Garrett Chan, the CEO of HealthImpact, the primary sponsor of the conference, in person. Garrett and the team at HealthImpact did an incredible job putting this innovative conference as a catalyst to see the needed transformation realized in nursing education!
    • It was an honor to be one of the many breakout session presenters at the conference who are innovating nursing education using educational best practices to realize a vision of a radical transformation in how nursing is taught!
    • Our nurse educator consultant, Maria Flores-Harris sharing how the clinical judgment resources in our Think Like a Nurse membership can be used to transform education.
    • Keith presented a breakout session titled "Beyond Transformation: A Call to Radically Reform Nursing Education" that emphasized the importance of transforming the nurse educator by changing the way we think about nursing education and emphasizing preparing graduates for practice. Once the educator is transformed, REFORMATION, or restoring the primary purpose of nursing education to prepare graduates for practice, will follow.
    • Dr. Phil Dickison, CEO of the NCSBN presented a keynote session on “Dueling Paradigms: Radical Change in Nursing Education” that highlighted the importance of challenging the lens or assumptions we have about nursing education to transform our profession and the importance of patient trust needed to provide patient-centered care.

  • Kick off the New Year with a discussion on reflection with us this Thursday, Jan. 9 at 8PM EST / 7PM CST. Dr. Tiffany Condren will share findings from her research, which determined whether reflection prompts using Tanner's Clinical Judgment Model affect clinical judgment behaviors in undergraduate nursing students, as measured by Lasater’s Clinical Judgment Rubric (LCJR) and the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (NCJMM). She will also answer the important question of whether or not there is a correlation between the clinical judgment behaviors evaluated by the LCJR and the ability to correctly answer NCLEX questions framed by the NCJJM. Join us and bring your questions! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gP4_Ywu2

Addressing Critical Challenges in Nursing Education

  • In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we express our sincere gratitude to you and the remarkable community of educators we are privileged to work alongside. As nursing professionals, we dedicate ourselves to the care of others, but it’s equally important to remember that you, too, deserve care, support, and recognition. The heart of nursing goes beyond technical skills; it is rooted in compassion, resilience, and the unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. Even when the demands of the profession leave you feeling overwhelmed or uncertain, know that you are making an impact. Your efforts, no matter how small they may seem in the moment, are shaping the future of healthcare, one student at a time. Our mission and hope is that KeithRN and our community will lead to the reformation of nursing education, by transforming how nursing is taught, one educator at a time. We have faced many challenges in nursing education, but together, we have worked to transform how we prepare future nurses. By fostering a deep sense of professional identity and living with integrity, we ensure that new graduates are technically competent in navigating modern practice's complexities with empathy, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Thank you for your tireless contributions and for inspiring the next generation of nurses to embrace the core values of our profession — compassion, integrity, and advocacy. Through your work, you are helping to shape the future of nursing and, in turn, making the world a better place. As we celebrate this season of gratitude, remember to give thanks for both the good and the difficulties you may be experiencing, as they too can be used to uniquely accomplish God’s purposes in your life. Make time to rest and recharge, surrounded by the love and warmth of those closest to you.

  • In nursing education, it is time to move beyond transformation and embrace reformation. But what does this shift entail? Transformation typically refers to changes in individual perspectives and practices. It involves personal growth and the evolution of thinking. We must ask ourselves: What must we change to better prepare future nurses? To begin this journey, we must first reflect on nursing education’s original and primary purpose: to teach students to think, feel, and act like nurses. This foundational purpose remains as critical as ever in preparing students for the demands of clinical practice.
