Happy geography awareness week from the University of Kentucky Geography Department and the President of the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals

A week ago today my wonderful wife, Kimberly Anness, received the “Service to the Mapping Community” award from the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals (KAMP). Her public service to the Commonwealth, over the past 27+ years, has left an indelible mark on Kentucky’s GIS timeline. Kim played a pivotal role in some of the most successful statewide mapping projects, laid the foundation for how we manage enterprise geospatial data, and was always gracious with her time and expertise. Her contributions will have a long-lasting impact on the Commonwealth. Although it was stated that she received the award because she had retired at the end of September, nothing could be further from the truth. Kim deserved this recognition regardless of her employment status. Her tireless efforts touched each person in the GIS community whether they realized or not. Kim’s wisdom, technical expertise, and wealth of institutional knowledge will be missed at DGI and beyond. It has been my honor to have worked by her side for so many years.  #GeoWomen.
