Khoj can now execute simple Python code on your behalf! This is deeply useful for running any calculations that go beyond simple math, but not quite a machine learning problem. We gave our whole UX a refresh! We collated a bunch of the feedback that's been building up over months of shipping, and decided to wipe the whole slate clean on the look and feel of our web app. It's sleeker, less cluttered, and more focused on explainable, transparent reasoning. TLDR; Khoj has gotten a little better at giving you date-aware retrieval from your docs! Link to technical doc and instructions to use it in the comments ⬇️ Humans talk about time in fascinating, coded terms. When someone mentions Thanksgiving, you might instantly think of turkey and falling leaves. Or “spring” might bring to mind flowers blooming in March. We’ve been working hard to make Khoj better at grasping these associations between date, season, and holidays. In the past, at Khoj we relied on explicit date filters for finding time-dependent information in your documents. It worked, but let’s face it – typing “dt>=‘2024-07-01’” at the end of your queries isn’t exactly natural or user-friendly. That’s why we created Timely, our new date-aware embeddings model. Timely is pretty clever – it can understand that when you say “spring 2019,” you mean March to May 2019. The best part? It does all this processing during indexing, so you don’t have to worry about it when you’re searching. We’ve put Timely through rigorous testing, and the results are impressive. The new model sees a 15-25% improvement in finding snippets about seasons, months, and holidays. This means Khoj is getting significantly better at understanding how we naturally talk about time.

Exciting news for Khoj users and productivity hackers! We just launched a new desktop shortcut that gives you a mini Khoj on your own computer. This brings open-source AI-powered assistance directly to your fingertips, regardless of your OS or what's on your workspace. Key highlights: - OS-level integration for seamless workflow - Reads your clipboard and injects it into your query - Quick access with a simple keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+K) - Instant AI chat about any selected text This feature represents a significant step in making Khoj more integrated into our users' daily workflows.
