In the last 20 years, the world has witnessed the biggest #advancement in #technology than any other times in human history - from social networking of more than 3 billion people to drones, robots and AI transforming the landscape of how we live and work. Yet more than 3 billion people are disenfranchised. These people live in underserved communities with little to no internet coverage, suffer the most from preventable diseases - like #malaria, #dengue and other neglected tropical diseases (#NTDs) - and bear the highest burden of global warming resulting from our collective negligence. The World Dengue Day which is also #ASEANDengueDay 2024 (June 15th, 2024) leaves little to celebrate than for us to forge ahead, build #alliances, do away with the things that separate rather than unite us - like favouritism, nepotism and racism - and rather favour merit and hard work, which can help us to achieve our collective goals such as the United Nations #SDGgoals2030, African #Agenda2063goals, and the World Health Organization's (#WHO) Universal Health Coverage (#UHC) before the deadline of 2030, barely 6 years to go. Children are the most impacted by this disenfranchisement, but everyone stands to gain when we win over malaria, its close ally Dengue and other NTDs. For us at Kick Out Malaria, the fact that these diseases are preventable gives us encouragement and the drive to keep working day and night to ensure the safe and active participation of children, families and their communities in underserved locations, without which the multilateral efforts cannot yield a lasting result. Our Kick Out Malaria series comprising #storybooks, story #apps, computer video #games and #cartoon video episodes is thoughtfully designed to complement the multilateral efforts in eradicating malaria, dengue and other NTDs in our time. #WorldEnvironmentDay2024 Our #environment is the reflection of who we are. Environmental #pollution and the resultant spike in #diseases and global warming are a result of our #action that we all have to take responsibility for. When we are talking about the effect of pollution on our environment and global warming today, we are simply talking about the poor handling of human waste besides industrial pollution. Heaps of waste blocking the drains, creating breeding sites for #mosquitoes, houseflies and other disease-causing agents, and ending up in our oceans today did not happen in one day. It starts from home. Therefore, our Kick Out Malaria Story and Game series is addressing the root cause of the major infectious diseases such as #malaria and #NTDs, while, at the same time, fighting climate change. The Kick Out Malaria series is driving behavioral change. We are adopting a holistic approach to solving some of the biggest problems that the world has been battling for years. We cannot achieve significant progress in the fight against environmental pollution and the attendant infectious diseases without taking into consideration the people most vulnerable to these problems. So, our Kick Out Malaria School and Community Outreach program is designed to ensure the active and safe participation of children and families in countries with high burden of malaria and NTDs as both actors and stakeholders in eradicating these diseases towards achieving the World Health Organization's (WHO) Universal Health Coverage and the United Nations Social Development Goals (#SDG2030) before the deadline of 2030. Be a part of #history - help children defeat malaria and NTDs as we #celebrate this World Environment Day 2024 today! HAPPY WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY! This #WorldChildrensDay2024 presents us with another opportunity to invest in children worldwide, most especially poor and vulnerable children battling malaria and NTDs in more than 85 countries. Malaria and NTDs are taking too much from children. Many children are out of school due to malaria and NTDs. These diseases are causing untold hardship, inflicting poverty and the resultant social vices. According to reports, Africa loses over US$900 billion yearly to ‘hidden food cost’, raising #DISEASE and #POVERTY BURDEN. Before it was poverty that caused malaria, now it is malaria causing poverty. This is especially true given that billions of dollars are spent yearly on malaria and NTDs. It is estimated that Nigerian households spend over 2 trillion Naira (that’s over US$1.5 billion) to treat malaria every year – whether they have to borrow it, or beg for it, or steal it! Eradicating malaria and NTDs will embolden the people to fight poverty, raise their own standard of living, and ensure financial prosperity for themselves, which in turn will provide a conducive, prosperous atmosphere for children to live and fulfill their dreams. To this end, the Kick Out Malaria Story and Game series was born! The Kick Out Malaria #Storybooks, Story #Apps, Computer Video #Games and Short #Animated series are created to help children and their families defeat malaria and NTDs, prevent resurgences, and save hundreds of thousands of lives and billions of dollars lost to these diseases yearly. There are countries in the world where children wake up in the morning and have a bright day ahead of them. The same cannot be said of 85 countries and territories (mostly African countries) at risk of malaria transmission where children wake up in the morning and are either held down by malaria or struggling between life and death from other preventable but life-threatening diseases. If the world must experience the #advancement we all truly want as set forth in the social development goals (#SDG2030) and the Africa Agenda 2063 goals, we all have to work together to achieve it. Everyone has a place and a role to play, including these poor, vulnerable African children and families. It is not a coincidence that this World Children's Day 2024 coincides with the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly #WHA77 and @African Development Bank Group annual meeting 2024. It is time for more investments in children to secure their future. Be a part of #history - help children defeat malaria and NTDs as we #celebrate this World Children's Day 2024 today! Celebrating #Africa Day 2024. AFRICA. The Land of #HOPE. AFRICA. Our #Motherland. AFRICA. The #origin of #humanity. It is quite unfortunate to see that Africa has become a sort of ‘headquarters of #malaria and #NTDs’, where millions of children and families are suffering untold hardship from the scourge of these diseases. But the good news is…MALARIA IS #PREVENTABLE! So are NTDs! That means hundreds of thousands of malaria and NTDs deaths every year can be prevented. It means billions of US dollars lost yearly to these diseases can be redirected to build basic #infrastructure to benefit the poor and the rich alike. To this end, the Kick Out Malaria Story and Game series was born! The Kick Out Malaria #Storybooks, Story #Apps, Computer Video #Games and Short #Animated series are thoughtfully designed and intentionally created to help children and families defeat malaria and NTDs, prevent resurgences, and save hundreds of thousands of lives and billions of dollars lost to these diseases yearly.
