The replacement of Highway 1’s Nicomen River Bridge is officially complete, offering safer and more reliable travel for drivers while being better equipped to withstand extreme weather. The new two-lane bridge replaces the previous structure, which sustained damage from heavy rains and floods in November 2021. Crews strengthened the foundation, reinforced the embankment to prevent erosion and rehabilitated pavement on the bridge approaches – ensuring long-term durability. Congratulations to everyone involved in this project!

"The work we do at Kiewit leaves a lasting impact on communities — whether it’s building bridges, airports, or even something as simple as a sidewalk. Our goal is always to leave a place better than we found it, and that’s a reward beyond words." Donovan Pink said it best. As a project manager, he understands the responsibility that comes with building infrastructure that truly makes a difference. He leads project startup and overall management of craft and staff employees while ensuring work is completed safely and with the highest quality. What’s his favorite part of the job? The challenges and the pride that come with it. "You have the chance to work on amazing projects with amazing people. Every day brings a new challenge to tackle, creating a sense of daily accomplishment. We have a unique opportunity to shape and improve the communities where we live and work. Every time I pass one of my own or another Kiewit project, I feel a sense of pride and excitement." Next month, Donovan will be among the many Kiewit employees attending the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) 2025 Annual Convention in Chicago. As an active NSBE member, he’s looking forward to connecting with students and young professionals from across the country while representing Kiewit. "I enjoy representing Kiewit in our search for the next generation of leaders. It’s even more meaningful to recruit from an organization I belong to because it gives me the chance to provide others with the same opportunities NSBE has given me."

Project update out of Black Canyon City, Arizona. Progress continues on the I-17 Anthem Way Project, where Kiewit and our joint venture partner Fann Contracting Inc. (KFJV) are providing improvements along 23 miles of this vital corridor from Anthem Way to Sunset Point. As the only direct route between the Phoenix area and northern Arizona, I-17 plays a big role in connecting communities and supporting regional travel. The project involves widening 15 miles of the interstate between Anthem Way and Black Canyon City by adding a lane in each direction, along with constructing two flex lanes over the remaining eight miles. These improvements will reduce congestion, improve safety and allow traffic to adapt to peak travel demands. Additional upgrades include two bridge replacements, the widening of 10 bridges and the integration of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology to enhance traffic flow and operations. We’re proud to partner with the Arizona Department of Transportation and look forward to helping commuters experience a safer, more efficient I-17 corridor.
