  • 📜 Knox Family Legacy: Land Development and Acquisitions 📜 As we continue our deep dive into Knox family history, we focus on John Knox, son of Captain Patrick Knox. After Patrick’s tragic death in battle, his young son John was primarily raised by his older sister Hannah and her husband Samuel Wilson. Their bond shaped key land transactions that would define the Knox family’s legacy. 🔑 Dated before Patrick Knox’s passing, I uncovered a deed from Archibald Henderson, a British colonel, granting Patrick Knox two tracts of land totaling 373 acres in Mecklenburg County. While some details remain unclear due to old handwriting, this land was a significant piece of what would later be passed down through the Knox family. There is also speculation that Patrick Knox, and others in the family, may have migrated from Ireland to North Carolina as a result of the Irish Rebellion. "During the Irish rebellion, quite a number of Knoxes came from Scotland to Ireland, and for some service rendered the English government, some of them obtained a land warrant for 600 acres." While the details remain hazy, the Knoxes’ move to America brought with it the start of a substantial land legacy. 🏞️ After Patrick’s death, his son John Knox inherited land and later made significant land deals of his own. In 1800, Samuel Wilson (who had been John’s guardian after Captain Patrick Knox’s death in battle) traded him 384 acres on McDowell Creek, near Caldwell Station in Cornelius. This land was traded in exchange for 428 acres that John inherited from his father’s estate. These transactions, recorded in Mecklenburg County deeds, show how the Knox family expanded their holdings in the region. 🗺️ Additionally, I’ve uncovered: * A map of McDowell Creek showing the land Samuel Wilson owned before transferring it to John Knox. * A receipt for a 50-acre land grant awarded to John Knox by the state of North Carolina. * Further maps of properties Samuel Wilson owned at the time John Knox was in his care. 🌳 These verified records give us a clearer picture of how the Knox family’s land acquisitions were instrumental in shaping the Lake Norman area. Through these deeds, we can even begin to pinpoint where the original Knox farm of this specific Knox genetic line was located in the 1700s. The journey of uncovering these historical gems has been challenging, but incredibly rewarding, bringing us closer to understanding the Knox family’s lasting impact on this region. 🏞️ Stay tuned as we continue to explore and uncover the legacy of the Knox family, one piece of land at a time. #KnoxFamilyLegacy #LandDevelopment #McDowellCreek #HistoricalRecords #LakeNormanHistory #RealEstateHistory
