    The third stage of the Doubt, Learn, Act cycle is where most organizations I have worked with seem to struggle the most. The Act stage is implementing new strategies, practices, or procedures that REFLECT the best insights gained from the Learn stage. Your new understanding of the problem or the solution gained from the Learn stage must direct the actions your organization will take moving forward. If your actions do not reflect what you learned, then you risk running into 3 massive problems: 1.     Your new strategy may miss the target, negatively affecting your bottom line. 2.     Your customers may feel like they are not being listened to, negatively affecting their loyalty to your brand. 3.     Your employees may have to deal with the new customer frustration, negatively affecting their loyalty to the company. Acting against your insights is more likely to create a toxic environment of customers and employees. However, inaction can sometimes be worse. Not doing ANYTHING will make everyone tied to your organization believe that you simply don’t care. You don’t have the drive for change. This will lead to a slow death of your entire organization, because if you don’t care, then why should anyone else? If there is an opportunity for your business, do not sit idle.     The second stage of the Doubt, Learn, Act cycle should be instinctive for your organization. When you stumble upon the unknown, your team’s aim should be to Learn! Sometimes learning is a quick question asked of a colleague. Sometimes it is a simple Google search, but sometimes it is much bigger than that. The Learn stage can be described as the process of gathering, analyzing, and understanding information to gain insights. There are multiple components to the Learn stage that I want to call out individually: Gathering – The information necessary to develop your understanding of the solution can come from a variety of places, and SHOULD come from a variety of sources so your understanding is less biased. Analyzing – Analysis goes far beyond any technique or methodology. Be sure to apply your analysis within the context of your business. Understanding – It is CRUCIAL that you apply the new information and analysis to your own knowledge of the business and ensure that you have gained a deeper understanding of the problem or solution. Insights – An insight is defined as information that fundamentally changes your understanding of something. Dashboards and KPIs are NOT insights. You can only gain real insights by asking “Why?” Upon completion of the Learn stage you and your team should walk away with a deeper understanding of what needs to be done so that you can accomplish your new goal.     The first stage of the Doubt, Learn, Act cycle ought to start automatically for your organization, however you might not be fully aware that it has happened.
