And here is part 2 of the conversation between Alison Buchanan of Pegasus Opera Company Ltd. and Princess Agina recorded at the Business of Opera conference in London. Alison talks about what effective mentorship means post college when artists go out into the real world, and the importance of working with people with lived experience. You do not get better if people are not honest with you.

In part 1 of a conversation between Alison Buchanan of Pegasus Opera Company Ltd. and Princess Agina, Alison describes how Pegasus Opera empowers artists from the global majority and gives them skills to develop their careers in opera. There is a lot of talk about diversity, but there is a need to move further from a tick box exercise to making diversity part of the DNA of the art form.

What do people who have never engaged with opera actually think about the art form? Princess Agina speaks to Seb Wride of Public First about the results of research commissioned by Laidlaw Opera Trust and presented at the Business of Opera summit. In a first of its kind, this research finds how opera can better understand audiences and potential audiences. Public First identified lots of positive take-aways, including the large difference in group size between those who have attended opera, and those who are interested in attending. "It's passionate... It's posh. But they have got some bangers."

What happens when you reimagine opera? Princess Agina speaks to Michael McCarthy of MUSIC THEATRE WALES at the Business of Opera conference about the practical implications of asking, "What is opera? Who makes it? Who it is for?" How does this then change the structure of the way opera is managed? What can we learn from those from marginalised groups as they express themselves through opera? Listen - this is thought-provoking!
