Two SmithGroup projects have been recognized by Lambda Alpha International (LAI) Land Economics Society George Washington Chapter #WashingtonDC chapter in their 2024 society awards program. Our Rock Creek West Corridor Plans for DC Office of Planning received an honor for Outstanding Plan or Program. The plans, which address the District's housing equity goals, were found exemplary for “…engagement with community stakeholders, detailed development strategies, and overall vision for the plans' implementation.” Additionally, Capital Jewish Museum was recognized as the Outstanding Project under 200,000 sf. The jury noted that the new museum, which incorporates the historic Adas Israel synagogue into its design, “…fits intricately within the context of the surrounding community and is of outstanding value to the cultural and social significance in the larger metropolitan community.” Congratulations to our design teams, our clients and our partners on this recognition! #DesignABetterFuture #DesignJustice #HousingEquity #HistoricPreservation #MuseumDesign

The National Aquarium’s new Harbor Wetland shows the great potential of creating wildlife habitat in cities. With just 10,000 square feet, it has already drawn otters, herons, ducks, crabs, fish, eels, and jellyfish. The $14 million constructed wetland in Baltimore, Maryland was designed by landscape architects at Ayers Saint Gross, a multidisciplinary firm. It improves the harbor environment and advances research and innovation.
