About us

On December 2, 1987, brothers Russ and Jim Klisch opened Lakefront Brewery and sold their first batch of beer to a neighborhood tavern in Milwaukee. Now, we’re one of Wisconsin’s largest craft breweries and on pace to produce over 50,000 barrels in 2016. We currently offer more than 20 different beers with distribution in over 30 states, Australia, Canada, South Korea, and Ukraine. Our pioneering spirit has earned us numerous awards and created many industry firsts. Among these: Riverwest Stein winning Gold for American-Style Amber Lager at the 2016 L.A. International Beer Competition, the first certified organic beer (Organic E.S.B.), and the first gluten-free beer granted label approval by the U.S. Government (New Grist). Our tours are among the most popular in the U.S.; over 100,000 people tour the brewery each year. It’s one of the first—if not the first—to offer beer at the beginning, during, and after the tour instead of requiring guests to wait until the end. We're down-to-earth, hard-working and brewed in Milwaukee for people who like beer.

Updates

  • As a package production brewery, we go through so much stretch wrap around our pallets everyday. It feels so much better to have a biodegradable option, such a great win-win for us and the environment!

The next right thing - partnering with a WI staple in Lakefront Brewery to make the world a better place for our future generations - a connection made through the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council.   Packaging Systems was able to match the price of their current stretch film while improving force-to-load they see on outgoing pallets - with an ASTM certified biodegradable stretch film manufactured right here in WI, by Alliance Plastics. This will take thousands of pounds of virgin plastic out of the waste stream and replace it with a film that degrades in just two years and three months. Better performance + better for the planet + no added cost = everybody wins. (humble brag: look at all these WI partners improving the world around you)   #winsconsin #sustainability

  • BIG news! We are beyond thrilled to announce that our La Gosa Rita Margarita Ale just won a Bronze in the Gluten-Free Beer category at 2024 World Beer Cup®, the most prestigious beer competition in the world! La Gosa Rita was previously honored with a Gold in the competition in 2022, and we didn't dare mess with a good thing. Cheers to all colleagues at Lakefront for keeping up the great work producing world class beer, and to all of our fans for continuing to support us along the way! Shoutout to fellow Wisconsin brewers 1840 Brewing Company from Milwaukee for their Bronze win, Turtle Stack Brewery outta La Crosse for winning a Gold, and The Lone Girl Brewing Company for taking a Bronze back to Waunakee! Congrats and cheers for helping continue the legacy of quality Wisconsin beer. Often referred to as “The Olympics of Beer,” the World Beer Cup recognizes international brewing excellence. This year’s winners were selected by an international panel of 280 beer judges from 37 countries; 9,300 total entries from 2,060 breweries and 50 total countries were evaluated. https://lnkd.in/gbQbh3uK https://lnkd.in/gnAptQ7y
