The Marian Sisters of the Lincoln Diocese were featured in their Marycrest Memo, Christmas Edition; highlighting the volunteer work they do in the community. We are especially appreciative to Sisters Clare and Michaelene (pictured with Officer Hansen) for volunteering their time with us to "bring God's love and hope" to women in our care at Lancaster County Department of Corrections. Thank you, Sisters, for your compassion and time.

The Nebraska Basic Jail Training in Grand Island took place a few weeks ago. Sergeants McCoy and Vocasek and Officers Yuhas and Kenny took time to train jail professionals from other agencies. They instructed correctional officers on cell searches and report writing. This was a great opportunity to connect with others around the state and learn from each other. When asked, our Director Brad Johnson emphasized, "It is such an honor that these individuals have been asked to share their experiences and professionalism as trainers for other jails throughout our state. I am proud to work with these correctional professionals."

We're happy to share this Public Safety Assessment (PSA) in partnership with Lancaster County Community Corrections. By supporting these data-driven decisions, we’re working to increase fairness and reduce unnecessary pretrial detention to foster better outcomes for justice-involved individuals and our community.
Lancaster County is committed to supporting community-based pretrial services that enhance public safety and fairness. Over the past year, Lancaster County Community Corrections has evaluated pretrial programs and adopted best practices, including identifying and implementing the Public Safety Assessment (PSA)—a data-driven tool used to make more informed pretrial decisions! 🧑⚖️ Following an arrest, judges must decide whether a person should be released or detained while awaiting trial. The PSA uses nine key factors to help estimate the likelihood that individuals will appear in court and remain arrest-free. This ensures decisions are informed by safety and risk. 📋✔️ In partnership with the Lancaster County Department of Corrections, Community Corrections is working to lower recidivism rates and encourage the least restrictive supervision for justice-involved individuals. By using tools like the PSA, we aim to reduce unnecessary pretrial detention and foster better outcomes for individuals and our community! 🙌 Learn more about pretrial justice and the PSA here: https://loom.ly/rTm5_7w #CommunitySafety #PretrialJustice #PublicSafetyAssessment #LancasterCounty #CommunityCorrections #LancasterCountyNE #LincolnNE #Nebraska #localgovernment #localgov

We are excited about our new Prison Outreach Program with Nebraska Wesleyan University! The University engages inmates as problem solvers by providing educational workshops using the Prison Outreach Program curriculum. This is the first time college students are facilitating a class like this. Through this program, Nebraska Wesleyan is able to provide college-level courses and instruction during their fall and spring semesters, led by both professors and students.
