How can we revitalize one of the least densely populated municipalities in Europe? Moongate is a sign that it is possible to reverse this sense of abandonment and aspire to a more prosperous future.      During these days in Oleiros, we made an immersive visit to this place, accompanied by the architects and performers who will be part of the transformation teams during the Cortiçada Art Fest. Over the next few months, they will be working together with the community and other artists on the research that will give life to the projects to activate the space surrounding this work of art.      A big thank you to the Universidade Sénior de Oleiros, APPACDM and Escola Básica e Secundária Padre António de Andrade for taking this journey with us! 📢 Landscape Together Project Update! 🌱 Since 2023, the Landscape Together initiative has been driving research led by the University of Coimbra Partners about the urban network of the Experimenta Paisagem Museum, developed by master’s students in Architecture. Through collaborative efforts, these students have developed architectural strategies aimed at revitalizing villages and towns, promoting sustainable and participatory approaches to local heritage. This collaborative effort is shaping the future of depopulated areas, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and participation. The first year of research has culminated in Action Plans, and continues to detail architecture programs and construction until the summer of 2025. The Landscape Together project is a powerful example of how architecture can play a catalytic role in the revitalization of rural areas, combining community, heritage, and landscape in transformative ways. The workshop and public presentation of the new artwork of the Museu Experimenta Paisagem (MEP) in Salvaterra do Extremo by the Atelier YokYok was the culmination of June 10th in Cortiçada Art Fest, which brought together more than 40 inhabitants to experiment with prototypes and techniques of this work. Cutting and manipulating bricks, experimenting with mortars with different pigments... "Amanhã Sol" is the name of this project that promises to turn the furdas of Salvaterra into a place of contemplation and discovery. What people want is people! We celebrated the Cortiçada Art Fest 2024 with an excellent program featuring shows, workshops, and talks in the heart of Portugal, surrounded by the artworks of the Experimenta Paisagem Museum.  The shared curation between MAG-Marques de Aguiar and the Chillida Leku Museum led to unique creations that activated the artworks of the Museum with the people of the places. The Cortiçada Art Fest is extending an invitation to six emerging artists to embark on creating groundbreaking projects that deeply engage with the Experimenta Paisagem Museum (MEP), the local community, and the surrounding landscape. Taking place from June 12th to 16th in Proença-a-Nova, these residencies are designed to foster stronger collaboration between artists and locals while simultaneously broadening the artistic influence within the region. Through this initiative, the festival reaffirms the intrinsic connections between art, community, and MEP, with a focus on fostering innovation and celebrating artistic diversity. Applications for participation must be submitted by March 27th. This endeavor is a key component of the Landscape Together Project, a European cooperation initiative co-funded by Creative Europe and led by @mag - marques de aguiar, arquitectura e urbanismo. It brings together 17 international partners from Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and the designated pilot territory in central Portugal. Set against the picturesque backdrop of this village in Proença-a-Nova, the Magma Cellar is a profound reflection on the essence of returning to our roots, to the beginning – a sentiment deeply embedded in the life of the village and the dreams of those who call it home, whether permanently or sporadically. Positioned on the bridge over the river, this masterpiece, born from the creative minds of Marta Aguiar, Mariana Costa, and Sofia Marques de Aguiar, celebrates the regenerative power of art within the landscape.  Inaugurated on June 19, 2021, the Magma Cellar stands as a testament to the enduring connection between art, community, and the eternal return to the things that matter most. The Magma Cellar welcomed all partners involved in the Landscape Together project during the LT Launch Event in June 2023. Against the backdrop of the village's dreams and aspirations, the LT Launch Event added a layer of collective experience to the enduring narrative of the Magma Cellar, underscoring its significance in the landscape and within the collaborative spirit of the Landscape Together initiative.
