Day 2 at #ACTFL24 was full of special events. The day opened with an LTI-sponsored breakfast with the National Network of Early Language Education #NNELL. Our team then had a great meeting with Montserrat Garibay Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education Office of English Language Learners. We discussed their incredible achievements, LTI’s contributions to this body of work, and the work that needs to be done in the months and years ahead. Finally, the day ended with an LTI-hosted panel of esteemed educators and experts (Jessica Haxhi, Renee Tarrant, Kit Hall, CFRE, CNP, Fernando Rubio, Michael Herrera, Ed.D. , moderated by Jennifer Carson). The discussion included the benefits of #multilingualism and credentialing language with industry recognized standards; how to bridge the gap between K12 and higher education to benefit language learners; what employers are looking for when hiring and certifying their multilingual employees and how educators can share this information with students; and how to foster collaboration between education and industry to promote language education for economic growth. This was an inspiring and energizing day. Our team is incredible! Tiziana Aime Gosia Jaros-White, MA Leonardo Islas, M.S.Ed.
