  • A Historic Moment for Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart! Latz & Company is proud to celebrate with our partners at Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart on their monumental achievement of purchasing their school property! This milestone secures not only Josephinum’s mission of empowering young women through leadership and education but also the bright future of its students for generations to come. We applaud the unwavering dedication and collaborative effort that made this dream a reality. This is more than a property—it’s an investment in education, community, and opportunity. Here’s to continued success and an even brighter future! 🎉

The Board of Directors of Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart, Chicago’s longest standing all girls Catholic High School, announced an agreement in principle for the purchase of its school property at 1501 N. Oakley Blvd., via a newly formed 501(c) (3) created for the sole purpose of owning the property. This milestone agreement was made possible through a cornerstone commitment from a major national foundation and support from long-standing Josephinum benefactors. In conjunction with the property purchase, Josephinum has launched a Capital Campaign, Forever Jo, to raise an additional $23 million to endow school operations and establish its next chapter as a leadership academy for young women. Josephinum’s President, Richard McMenamin, emphasized the significance of this moment in the school’s 135-year history: “This agreement is not just about securing our physical space—it’s about securing a brighter future for our students, their families, and their communities. The transition into a leadership academy for young women will open doors of opportunity and provide our students with the tools they need to become leaders in their communities.” McMenamin also thanked the school’s founders: “The Sisters of Christian Charity, who opened the school in 1890 and operated it until 1985, and have been dedicated stewards of Josephinum for many decades. We greatly appreciate their unwavering commitment and support, which has positively impacted generations of students.” Visit josephinum.org/realestate to read the full press release.

  • Ok so we may be a bit biased, but we have an incredible team of incredible fundraising and development professionals. We would like to introduce, Derek McPhatter! Derek’s journey into fundraising began at NYU Graduate School, where he asked the career office about the job that "gets money." Despite being discouraged from pursuing it, he dove into development anyway. His passion for fundraising was sparked further in college when he met his English professor's husband, a jazz artist and grant writer, realizing that artists had "day jobs" and grant writing was one of them. That moment marked the start of Derek's career in fundraising, where he found his calling in helping organizations secure the resources they need to achieve their goals. Outside of work, Derek unwinds by watching Star Trek reruns and playing games on his phone. He’s driven by a passion for helping everyday people achieve extraordinary outcomes through collaboration. Derek also loves spending time at Oakwood Beach in Bronzeville, enjoying views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. His personal and professional passion for the performing arts is a constant inspiration in his work, where he strives to connect people with causes that matter. Derek’s blend of creativity, dedication, and passion for positive change makes him a valued member of our team.

  • In a recent Chronicle of Philanthropy article, Rasheeda Childress dove into recent research about donor trends. In data from the Fundraising Effectiveness Project it was reported that in the second quarter of this year, the number of donors declined in every category — from micro-donors who give less than $100 to supersize donors who give more than $50,000 BUT the amount donated went up by 3.7%. Childress went on to report that the chief data officer for GivingTuesday, Woodrow Rosenbaum said “Donor fatigue is a myth, but that doesn’t mean that the donors aren’t tired of the same old transactional engagement. Donors want to “maintain a dialogue that isn’t always just asking for money." So, this is all about stewardship! We need to work with donors to help them understand a nonprofit organization’s mission and engage people to support the important and good work. Then donors will continue to step up. We want to hear from you!

  • How cohesive are your marketing and fundraising teams?
