⚠️ 🚨 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭: 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝟎-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧! LayerX Labs has detected a novel phishing campaign that impersonates legitimate DocuSign emails in an attempt to lure victims to share sensitive information. This new attack mimics a Docusign email and file, bypassing Google’s gateway and #phishing filter. Users who clicked the DocuSign link were led to a phishing webpage protected by CAPTCHA. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, we are seeing an increase in phishing and credential theft attacks across the board. This attack stands out because it bypasses traditional #security defenses, leaving unsuspecting users to figure out on their own that they are in the midst of a phishing attack. 🎣 How did this attack get through Google's email gateway and phishing filter? ❗𝟎-𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭: The email pattern wasn't recognized in databases of existing known attacks ❗𝐔𝐧𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐔𝐑𝐋: The attack link wasn't listed in databases and feeds of known malicious URLs ❗𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: The email does a very good job of masquerading as DocuSign ❗𝐒𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞: The attacker uses CAPTCHA in the phishing website. Appearing like a legitimate website blocks most anti-phishing web inspection defenses. Luckily, LayerX detected the attack in real time and prevented the malicious page from loading on the victim’s endpoint. This incident emphasizes why organizations need a browser security solution that goes beyond traditional URL filtering and scans every web page directly at the point of risk. This allows identifying and disabling malicious activities coming from phishing/social engineering sites from any source, including the most advanced and evasive attacks.
