We enhance the quality of life of the Texans we serve through water stewardship, energy and community service.

About us

LCRA exists to serve the people of Texas. It’s been that way since the state Legislature created us in 1934. We continue that legacy today by providing a multitude of vital services to our customers and communities. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of the Texans we serve through water stewardship, energy and community service. LCRA produces and delivers electric power, manages the lower Colorado River and provides a reliable water supply, manages a public parks system and supports community development. We are funded by revenue we generate, the vast majority of which comes from generating and transmitting electricity. A very small portion of our revenue comes from selling water. We do not receive state appropriations or have the ability to levy taxes. We have deep roots in Texas, dating as far back as the Great Depression of the 1930s. We built the chain of dams that tamed the Colorado River and brought power to rural Central Texas for the first time.

Empowering the next generation of leaders! 🌟 Earlier this year, the Yoakum High School Student Council applied for and received a LCRA community grant to help fund a new marquee for their school. The marquee is part of a student-led school enhancement project and will be used to share messages and information with the community. #LCRAGivesBack

Volunteering with The Salvation Army is one of our favorite holiday traditions at LCRA! Every year LCRA employees come together to make the holiday season brighter for children in Travis and Williamson counties through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. This year, our employees sponsored 106 children and multiple teams helped to sort or distribute gifts at the Angel Tree warehouse. Giving back to the communities we serve is central to who we are! #LCRAGivesBack

For more than 20 years, LCRA Transmission employees have volunteered to help string lights for Hallettsville’s Festival of Lights. Crews use their bucket trucks to hang more than 300,000 lights on the Lavaca County Courthouse. “This is just one way we give back to our communities and we look forward to doing it for many years to come,” said Brian Good, Transmission Line Construction manager. We love being able to help light up our communities for the holiday season! #LCRAGivesBack

With help from an LCRA community grant, the La Grange Lions Foundation was able to install a shade structure at Kruschel Memorial Park playground to make playtime safer and cooler. The new structure blocks more than 90% of the sun’s harmful rays helping protect kids from sunburn and hot playground equipment. Learn more about our community grant program here: www.lcra.org/cdpp #LCRAGivesBack

🚧 Progress Update: Timmerman Power Plant The exterior structure of Unit 1 at LCRA’s new peaker plant in Caldwell County is officially complete! Since breaking ground in April, our team has been hard at work with Fagen Inc. to build a plant that will provide power for Texans when it's needed most. Two natural gas-fueled peaker units will supply 380 MW of dispatchable power, enough for over 100,000 homes during peak demand. As Texas grows, so does the need for fast, reliable power. The Timmerman Power Plant will ensure electricity supply when other sources can’t meet demand. Unit 1 is expected to be 95% complete by the end of the year and on track to be operational in 2025. Unit 2 is scheduled to be operational in 2026. #PublicPower #LCRAPower
